PST Firmware Update 2.4.4 is Available

As I stated in other threads my new PST (SACD Transport) was non-responsive to the remote and the front panel buttons. I was informed a week ago that a firmware update was being worked on and today it is live! It’s 2.4.4 and available on the website or via direct download if the PST is connected to the internet. I did the direct download which was quick and painless. So far all the issues I was having with controls being non-responsive are corrected! Early days (minutes actually) though so keeping my fingers crossed! I haven’t seen any release notes on what the update corrects so I can’t answer that. Hopefully someone from PS Audio will update us

Very interesting. A FW update, hopefully resolves the root of the issue and is not a work around. What seems odd as the problem did not manifest itself across all PSTs that shipped. (At least that is my understanding based on what has been reported on the PSA Forum threads.) I wonder if it is limited to the most recent batch shipped in mid-December 2021 and January 2022. Mine is still in the shop, after playing a USB continuously through the night it would not recognize any inputs the following morning, be it CD, SACD, or USB.

Yeah, mine is a unit from mid last year and does have this problem.

Mine is from early/mid Jan '22, and so far no problem.

My unit was relatively well behaved. That said, remote control commands weren’t particularly effective. This update seems to have addressed this particular issue. I’m not sure what other things were fixed or revised.

That’s interesting. So it may be random, or they may be a minor glitch or Out-of-Tolerance issue with the transports. Two data pints, that don’t support a recent manufacturing release related cause.

I’m thinking it may be my very limited use of the remote that has made me “immune”.

As I was basically running mine in until the problem occurred, I did not have much opportunity to use the remote control, or listen to the PST for that matter. I listened to a couple of CDs and IIRC maybe an SACD. My approach was to let it burn in and then give it a good listen, and note any peculiarities. Unfortunately my PST never made it that far.

I can’t find where to download 2.4.4 on the PS Audio Main site. on the PST page all I see is 2.3.1.

Never mind, I found it.

I did the USB stick upgrade. It didn’t work until the bin file was the only thing on the thumb drive. But it worked. Hooray. 2.4.4.

What size thumb-drive is recommended?

I use old “promotional” thumb drives. The one I use for this is 1gb

I just plug in the ethernet cable and use the menu on the PST to download the firmware directly into the player from the net. Works fine. Didn’t notice any change in functionality, but there was no functional problem before, only the power button is not too responsive, but I do not use that button anyway, I just use the remote which is very responsive. Maybe I should check if there is any increase in sound quality like the firmware updates did change the sound a little on my DMP before.

Done. Works. All I could find was a 16 gig drive. Must have gotten rid of all my promo stuff when I retired.

I tried the over the net upgrade and got nothing. So I did the USB method. I found that a 8GB EMPTY thumb drive worked where a 64 GB thumb drive with music on it did not work.

I played two Redbook CDs and UT sounded swell. I get my Gryphon Ethos Transport / DAC next Thursday. I’m guessing that will sound better still with Redbook. It doesn’t do SACD.

Can’t wait to hear what you hear.
My PST is just pis***g me off.
I think it’s going to be replaced soon. I’m out of patience for the clumsy, preposterous way it refuses to respond to remote commands----and skips—and gets stuck----and
2.4.4.bs.
Do I sound at wit’s end?

If you have the display lights off, the first press on the remote turns the lights on and the next press is the command, so you have to press twice for each command. Works very reliably for me every time. If you have the lights on the display, all you need is press once for each command.Sometime it freezes when you give it too many commands without giving it enough time to respond, then you have to reboot with the switch on the back of the unit. Does it also freezes and skips when you’re playing a disc?

@Terrence: Which input(s), the remote, the panel buttons, a disc CD or SACD, or USB. Rather vague.

@RonP: Wit’s end , I have been there with the PST/DSD combo.

Thanks for the notes! When you do the direct download you don’t get the notes. I should download the firmware just so I have a copy to be safe …
