Beautiful system Ron…
Thanks Mark. Can’t wait to save up enough to get the other speaker!
Congrats! It’s such an elegant looking setup, Ron! Mine looks a bit more like a factory where they might someday make Terminators. Clutter and devices aplenty.
Congrats Ron!
But I thought you were purchasing a Gryphon Ethos cd player.
Heavens to murgatroyd no. Ain’t got the scratch for that.
That’s 'cause you spent all that moolah on the beautiful Pass Labs gear. Is that an XP-30 or XP-32 line stage? Looks like an XP-27 phono pre too. Very nice indeed. Which Wilson speakers are those?
Oh and I started looking at Linn LP-12 decks. Wow you can go wild with upgrades on them. They make my Rega Naia look like a basic TT!
XP32, XP27, Wilson Watt Puppy 50th.
I love the LP-12. When I got it I went hog wild and got the “Klimax” version with the “Ekstatik” cartridge. After listening the first few times, I strangely felt like having a cigarette even though i don’t smoke.
I gave mine 12 hours to come to room temperature before plugging it in and powering it up. Then again the CDT3 Mk3 is a bit more massive. Mine has come into its own after about two weeks of constant power, and CD playback.
Enjoy, as I know you will!
It is a Natural!
Still room for a Gryphon PowerZone 3.10.
Surprisingly after about 24hours on “repeat disc” it sounds very different (better).
I think you can also plug a thumbdrive in and break it in without spinning a disc. I might be imagining that but I think I did that with mine. I don’t know why.
Jays recommended burn-in time is about spot on…at about 450 hours I was a happy boy!
I remember after around 75-100 hours on my CDT2 was the biggest change and after that the changes were less dramatic. I will say I usually run a CD for about an hour before I really listen even though I never turn off the main switch. Get the caps and stuff nice and chewy like when you first pop in a Tootsie Roll you gotta gum it up a work it in a bit, but the Jay’s won’t pull a tooth right out the jaw!. At first it seems maybe a little fizzy. The little PS MK2 DAC with Blue Sky really brought the stuff even more so with the Jay’s. I mean quite a bit. The company name is a kinda different…more like a kid that makes Scout neckerchief slides than high hifi.
Mine lost a bit of it’s edginess and forwardness in the first week. I didn’t focus too much on it, preferring vinyl while it began to settle in. IIRC there is no USB input so a thumb drive direct isn’t an option.
I may pick-up a new HDMI cable for it, undecided at this point. I am using a Nirvana coax to good effect. I hate to spend on an HDMI should I actually upgrade my DAC(s) this year, as it is unlikely an HDMI would be an option. Having heard the Grimm MU2 has me thinking… The Playback Design PD-8 has the outboard USB Plink interface that is great, but will not interface with Jay’s CDT, no USB option. I am loathe to pursue options that require additional interface boxes for a decent sound, thus the Grimm is once again on my mnd.
The Grimm does seem nice
75 hour update:
This thing sounds great. Better than I expected. It’s value-for-money is very satisfying.
For grins, I reinstalled the transport that I had been using for many months and liked very much, the Project CDT2.
The Project is a toy compared to the Jay’s.
Now time to consider the Stack Auva EQ 1 footers, hmmm…
Just make certain you shake them.
Do you have 3 or 4 EQ’s underneath your Jay’s?
Did you remove the integral feet? I am tempted.
They touch ever so lightly on the shelf. Don’t know if that’s good or bad. Regardless, it messes with my world order.
