Hello all. My dac just turned while I was changing settings to network bridge. Dead no clicks or lights lights. I tried shutting switch several times and waiting to turn back on. My guess is internal fuse. Is there a overload reset on the back or just internal fuse ??? Also it is powerd by the P5 with the pwt on same circuit and I checked the power cord as well…
Sounds “fusey” to me. Weird that it would happen at that moment, though. Some more experienced will be along in a bit to lend you a hand, I’m sure.
Ok I will open it up tonight and look. Thanks
If it does need a new fuse get the Hifi Tuning Supremes… Best PWD upgrade available. Just got mine!
why did you change the fuse, did yours overload too???
Several of us put the HiFi Tuning Supremes in a year or two back and I believe that everyone who posted about it reported a significant improvement. To my not so critical ear this was a significant improvement - more so than any cable change that I have tried. Once in I immediately knew that I would never go back to the standard fuse. This is one of the best upgrade $$ values ever.
And just in case you wonder or don’t know me, I almost never rave about things like this. These Supreme fuses and the PowerBase are some of the rare exceptions. The PowerBase costs just a bit more, but in my system also gave a substantial improvement.

I’ve just taken my time to get on board (so to speak)
ok thanks all for responces. And really nice pics how to disasemble . It was a fuse, I now need to order a fuse or two from here. I also will by regular fuses to use for now. and when I receive the replacement I change and hope to hear what all you guys say you hear. I am not being mean just a skeptic for now. Sorry about my spelling…

Believe me, I REALLY get the skeptic part. How can just a little fuse make any difference in the sound… Kind of like how can a power cord make a difference. We look forward to your reports of what you hear (or don’t hear) with the new fuses.
Please tell us which fuses you chose and why as well. I don’t know about the others, but I am curious. I chose the Supremes because they were some of the best regarded at the time, as well as not the most expensive. Yes, I am cheap. I guess that audio is not the best hobby for that trait.

Hi,
The AMR fuses sound very good also and only cost $20 a piece. A real bargain. I forget where I bought them but will try to remember. I believe I just Googled them. I did not try them in my PWD II as I’d already purchased others but greatly appreciated the spacious warm sound that they provided to my amps and preamp and would not hesitate to use them in my PWD II especially as it seemed like I heard more of a difference when I changed the fuses in my CODA preamp than I did with $60 fuses in the PWD II.

I have the Hi-Fi Tuning, and also the Hi-Fi Tuning Supremes. Debatable whether the latter made a difference over the former, but compared to stock fuses the first upgrade was obvious. Everything in my system now runs on the Supremes, except the B+ fuses in my amp…hmmm… :-?
There is no logic to it. They just work. And the difference is an order of magnitude greater than firmware changes.
Thanks all, here goes a few hundred on fuses off all things. I am an electrical contractor and larger fuses are hundreds of dollars . But they way 10 to 20 pounds and rated at up to 4000 amps. Well I own an off ramp and a Audiophilleo with pure power . And they make a difference as well . So who am I to say no to this. My bigger concern is why the fuse blew in the first place as I was just making changes on the screen. The screen did lockup I shut it off hoping it would remedy the situation . When I turned it back on it was still looked and then went blank. By the way what a really cool way to take the unit apart … I am picking up some fuses ceramic type at a local electronic shop today and let’s see what’s next… Thanks all I will post results .

Agreed! I would be very hesitant to put anything other than direct replacements in your PWD until you get this sorted out. The functionality of "designer" fuses is a bit of a grey area, leaving trust entirely in the manufacturers claims. That said, I use them myself (HI-FI Tuning gold) but I had no reason to suspect that I might have a fault in my unit. Just my 2 cents worth. Best of luck.
What about the PSA fuses that come with the MKII kits?
I do not recall anyone ever commenting on their effects to SQ?
Al D
Is yours a new MKII or an upgrade? What fuses are in it now, PSA or generic?
It could also be just a bad fuse that gave up the ghost.

I forgot about these.
I bet most (all) simply popped them in with the MKII board and, thus, cannot comment on their respective contribution, if any.
What about the PSA fuses that come with the MKII kits?I really like the MKII fuses! In my opinion they are much better than the supremes. I have tried several fuses and the supremes sound a bit woolly the MKII fuses have better transparancy and instruments like gitars have better micro impact.

I tested the supremes twice. The first time I had them for about a month in the PWD and by replacing them with the MKII's again was super! The second time a few months later I tested them once again, but couldn't enjoy, so that did not last a day.
Thanks, Wijnand!
While I did remember that the Mk II upgrade did include improved fuses, I do not remember any comments on SQ testing of these new fuses. Thanks Wijnand.
Has anyone else done comparisons with the PS Audio fuses?

Gorden . It is a new one and has the better fuses in it. I bought a replacement fuse just to check to see if it works. It does I emailed tech support and they are mailing me two fuses. That is really cool , I really like this website and products . When I rec the new fuses I will do an a/b test to see if I can hear a difference , but the more I read it sure seems to be real.
