Rocky Mountain High

It sounds as though the March 1st thing might be something that does not fit in the usual scheme of things, like a dac or an amp but may be a combination of things. Or may be that silent server thing? Can’t wait.

Rumor: A new top notch DAC that rivals the PWD does not seem like a smart move to me, especially with a Bridge II in the making…

I think it is something else.

I hope Paul will Wow us with something that we have never seen in the audio world before. Fingers crossed.

My speculation is some kind of sonic holography gizmo.

@raykok I wish I could as well, but this product is a little bit more down to earth than that. The category is not new. Everything else about it is.

Like WGlenn stated it is a …NEW… component that will set your system on its ear. It will be an addition to your amp, preamp, speakers etc:etc: which are not New. So whatever gear you are using in your system it is going to enhance your gear and ,put pitch accuracy and musically back into the music. I think that gear today (my opinion)has either one or the other but not both. Paul is going to do it with this great NEW piece of component stereo gear.

But does this line up with statement that the category is not new?

Speaker cables? Could come in a bag, if Gordon is to be taken seriously on that hint. Or some sort of isolation product (seems unlikely given it costs more than a P10).

beware of herrings, especially red ones

No worries. I rarely take you completely seriously.

Audio is about converting one type or magnitude of signal into another between your source material and your ears. Getting from A to B if you will. Most of the components in your system are there to get you from A to B in one way or another. This thing does one of those steps in a new way.

The path that this thing takes is so simple and direct. It does what other compoments have done, in the broad sense, but it gets there by a new route. And that new route makes all the difference. Like the Panama canal.

Welcome, mduck!

It is a very fun concept. A beautifully designed and voiced one box solution has substantial appeal.

Paul McGowan said: I have heard these Meridian loudspeakers with their built in digital amplifiers, their DSP systems quite a lot at shows and dealers and never once thought anything other than "ugh" they are bright and flat sounding.

Is that just me?

Not just you. They are crispy/crunchy sounding.

On the aimless, boundless WAG speculation front:

Perhaps a player, in the category of a Bryston BDP-1/2, with a complement of inputs (USB and SATA external drives, internal SSD, USB flash drive, reclocking, a robust output interface).

It would need to be unquestionably and truly spectacular to justify the rumored price category however.

You shouldn't take me completely seriously, either, of course. Not that there seems to be much chance of that.

That reminds me something wireless. Or, rather, cableless. Wireless replacement of interconnect cables. Both analogue and digital. No ground loops, no dependance on length, memory buffers (aka lenses) everywhere. They can come in a bag and you can take part of them. It is possible that there is a central unit, what might explain the high cost.

Sounds pretty much useless (like most of my ideas) and not audiophile, but who knows...

My thought as well, but given how much trouble PS Audio has had with wireless/wired/gapless this seems unlikely - as well as unwise.

I figured it out. Audiophile sound chip greeting cards. All the current greeting cards on the market sound like cardboard and have no bottom end. Hopefully we are getting carbon fiber and the latest tripath amps, and high res sound files. Image your entire stereo rig replaced by a Valentines day card! Hallmark beware!

Well done!

At least now we know.
