I have finally messed around enough to goof off with this. I’m so accustomed to using Qobuz or more recently Apple Music, when I’m out and about.
Grimm MU-1?
I’m having issues with mine after the last software update. I’m thinking of firing up the Pink Faun until a new software update comes out. Odd.
Oops! Sorry to hear that.
Me too. Eelco says it has nothing to do with the upgrade. I disagree. He is certain the problem is Roon. When I use the MU1 as a server and endpoint, allowing it to work all its magic, it stalls between songs and starts 5 seconds into songs. Totally annoying. If I reset the MU1 settings it’s fine until it’s not again. But if just use it as a Roon server and the BACCH-SP as a Roon endpoint it works perfectly. I wiped Roon and restored from a just made backup and it’s still the same. I am done seeking help for it. I’ll just wait for the next upgrade.
I want to try the Pink Faun and it’s billion dollar USB output into the BACCH. I also would like to try Euphony 4.x with it.
Plugging the Ethos CD transport into the MU1 is pretty enjoyable though.
Yes
If you’d like to send it to me I’d be happy to work through the Roon support circus to get it solved ![]()
It might just convince me to get a MU-1 and, like you’ve said, “be done with it”.
Even when I had my old (slow) NAS attached, and ran Roon on a temporary computer for the first few months, I never had an issue with gapless playback. What I’ve noticed now is that with my modest Intel NUC and the new NAS which uses SSDs, Roon is very responsive.
I tried Audirvana again, and uninstalled it again. It has too many usability issues I can’t get past. JRiver never could handle gapless, and crashed multiple times per day (regardless of OS or version). There’s nothing
Also, from a galaxy not too far away (where it’s possible I’m persona non grata after a few comments I made
):
A typical case of developers running a company and not having anything to think about except adding more features without fixing the existing flaws. I’ve seen too many smaller companies like that.
As much as 2.0 is tempting me, I still hang onto 1.8 Legacy hoping that at some point, they will have come to their senses, actually listen to customer complaints, and realize that their assumption everyone will have perfect 24/7/365 Internet is fatally flawed.
What I might do is backup and copy my existing Roon library, then set up a separate instance of Roon Server using 2.0 (maybe even booting into Ubuntu on the same machine, to be sure they’re separate). I have all of my 1.8 Roon software downloads stored safely away, so changing out the players/remotes isn’t a big deal. At least I can try it for a short time to see how it behaves.
Thing is, I never could get Roon to run on Ubuntu. It would start up with no problems, but some obscure networking issue prevented it being discovered by any of the devices on the network. I tried every silly combination of solutions offered via Roon’s forums (it’s a known issue) and nothing could get it to work.
feel the need to add my 2 cents. Been using JRiver since version 21 (they’re currently on version 30), I have NEVER had a problem with gapless (PSA’s eLyric was a gapless mess on the other hand). Roon did recently have an issue: it’s resolved now.
Me neither- I am on release #27.
FWIW.
I upgraded our Nucleus Plus to 32GB RAM. I haven’t had a playback issue since 12/29/2022.
You might enjoy this post. Hurry, I am guessing Danny closes or deletes the topic.
And there’s this as well:
I have never had issue with that. I do have a small library (<500 albums) and i7/16gb/256gb NUC. its been fine for 3 years now.
Frankly I have had more issues with the end point hardware than anything. Which I would expect as it connects to so many things it would be nearly impossible to test all the combinations or in some cases being a beta tester for a certain DAC.
Honestly 98% of the complaints I see about Roon (non price that is) are on Mac or Windows devices which I why I went NUC. Best decision I made.
Absolutely I would. Whenever I lose my internet I tend to have other issues to worry about.
The social icons came a few releases ago. I can’t remember when. Three or four ago I think.
If the matrix is roon ready (dont know your model) then you do not need the usb from mac mini to Matrix. Do not need the mac mini at all. Unless its your remote. I would rather use a pad.
Of course that means the Matrix needs to be on the network.
Edit: now that I read that again, I am guessing that is a DDC matrix. which is not a roon end point. Which DAC from PS audio do you have? The MKII can do USB just fine w/o the DDC.
