Downloaded and installed… without a hitch. Now, I’ve got me seat and the music is playing!

Someone did beta test for the jr…?

Don’t recall a beta being offered/advertised for the Jr.

Yes…I remember.

I don’t have time for that yesterday and today…

My question is if someone have did test so that we can have appreciation for the jr.

Was this the noise issue specifically?

There is no Beta so therefore no testing.

Bridge 2 upgrade should be followed soon ?

It depends on what you mean by “the noise issue”. One bit DACs have an inherent noise floor that’s higher than most PCM implementations. On the other hand they are perfectly linear which even the best PCM dacs struggle with. There are other threads around that talk about ameliorations for an unacceptably high noise floor in a given system. [Edit: e.g. post 56 of the FPGA improvements in Redcloud thread: FPGA improvements in Redcloud - #56 by tedsmith]

In any case the descriptions of the changes in Redcloud are in the Redcloud thread:

Ok, that makes sense. So I found a new feature, not a new bug huh? LOL!

My player definitely passes the bit perfect test. But perhaps this was just a random event. So far I haven’t been able to reproduce this incident yet. So I’m hoping that it was just a fluke, and that Snowcloud isn’t so sensitive to this sort of thing that it becomes a problem.

And FWIW: After a little more listening, I can say that my jaw is hitting the floor! My DS just sounds flat-out amazing right now.

Up late listening. Sounds great, completely new level of refinement, really enjoying it – Thanks Ted… Just to make you aware there’s a quick fade in with Aurender Conductor app when switching between songs with different sampling rates. Have my delay setting set to 0 sec still fades in. Not sure if this is Aurender specific. Maybe this is as designed to address popping issue others had in the past?

Update done. Snowmass sounds fantastic! I’m probably the first in my country (Philippines) who updated and I can’t stop listening!

Kudos to @tedsmith and @Paul!

Hi Ted,

Updated to Snowmass this morning with the official release on the Download page. No problems with the update but I noted that Snowmass is re-flashing every time I reboot the DS - blue light flashing for about 25 sec. I cured that by removing the firmware files from the SD card (still allowing cover art to be displayed). After that Snowmass just boots up normally after a reboot. I recall that this has happened as well with a prior firmware release and was corrected with a change in the .cfg file.

Haven’t done any listening yet but certainly looking forward to this evening …

Kurt

When I extract the .zip files, do I move just the files that were inside the folder into the SD card or do I move the entire unzipped folder the SD card?

I just installed 2 mins ago and it went smoothly. Open the files and just drag them across.

Yes, open the link and place all the files on the SD card …

Place all the files at the root level of the SD card…not in a folder (directory).

Only the files. No directory.

Good point. Perhaps @tedsmith could instruct us on how to edit the .CFG file ourselves?

Off topic question… wouldn’t it be nice if the next firmware allowed previous versions to reside on the same SD card, with an option on the user interface that let’s us switch between them on the fly? Haha…

Nice idea. But those who have ever heard Snowmass will probably only rarely want to return to one of the previous operating systems. At least not me. Snowmass rulez :sunglasses:
