Some of the time we discover that what we thought was a bad recording wasn’t so bad.
Snowmass clears up some glare in the midrange that caused some of my vocal backed with trios to sound like they were recorded with the “mic too hot”. With Snowmass some of them now clearly have the backing in a different location than the vocal and the glare is gone.
I have always found perceived improvements are greater with Redbook than with higher resolution sources.
Similarly, poorly recorded sources are improved more than near perfect sources.
Actually, I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in with my gear as it is so sorry if I come off as endlessly angsty.
With the DMP and DS using Snowmass and my new Dynaudio 9S studio sub paired with my Merrill Thor Mono Blocks and Dynaudio Confidence C1 Mk II’s all running in balanced mode, I’m pretty much in audio heaven right now. I’ve even made the very risky move of telling my wife that I’m done with audio upgrades for forever.
So, really, no angst from this end.
Thank goodness! I would hate to see your posts if you were unhappy!
…andolink slinks away with his tail between his legs…
Ando Ando Ando, now you’ve gone too far. Maybe you’re dehydrated.
Have another cup of coffee
That’s good to hear! Especially going by the DMP thread, I would’ve thought you were ready to quit the hobby ; ). Let us know some of your happy thoughts from time to time.
I’ve decided my problem was not with SnowMass so much as 3.10 on the DMP. I went back to 3.09 briefly and got the frequency balance back for the most part. Then went back to 3.10 and rolled more rectifiers. Now with 'forties RCA 5V4G in both the Monoblocks and the CSP3-25 I’m getting great sound. Seems strange replacing 150 dollar Sophia Electric Aqua 274Bs with 15 dollar tubes, but there you go. . . . I’ll use the Sophias upstairs.
what single ended preamp are you using??
If you are referring to me I’m using the 25th Anniversary Edition (power supply and power regulation mods) Decware CSP3 preamp.
im using a lamm ll2 just totally recapped new tube sockets
wow new is new
Yes, my CSP3-25 is new this summer. . . a wonderful preamp and an exciting headphone amp.
Have heard many good things about their stuff…
I’ve been using their amps and preamps and speakers since '97. I’m as loyal to them as I am to PS Audio. . . both good people making quality products for those who love music.
Instead of using the various suggested band-aids as a work around for the auto turn on issue, wondering if and when PS Audio will have a fix and will it happen before end of year?
Also, since this is so prevalent, wondering why this wasn’t reported by the beta testers?
Ron
Unfortunately, no one catches all bugs in beta. Keep in mind proper loading, sound, and basic functionality were the focus of beta testers. Also, the beta period was short.
PS Audio is working on debugging Snowmass, including addressing the inability to upgrade the Bridge firmware when using Snowmass, etc.
I encourage everyone to keep reporting any bugs they experience so that they can be replicated and addressed.
Hi Elk
I understand what you are saying about Snowmass but it is very frustrating when Paul states that they missed a line out of Snowmass regarding the ability to update Bridge when using Snowmass and that the correct version should be ready in the next day or two, that was 14 days ago and we are still waiting, when I asked Paul for a revised timescale via the forum I’ve not had a reply. It does appear to a layman that apart from the excellent work that Ted does PS struggles with software.
Mike
It’s been released to several people and available for download this afternoon. We’ve added several cool new features in the meantime. I should stop making timing promises, you’re right.
I am always optimistic and rarely correct.
The beta test thread became nothing more than a show case for glowing reviews of how wonderful the f/w sounds. The few mentions of issues with the f/w were lost in the noise. Additionally, the beta test period was extremely short before the announcement was made that the test was over and the f/w was going to general release.
