Just got this DAC, and I’m impressed! Pretty sure it’s going to stay.
I have a question about the sampling rate.
This DAC can play DSD according to the spec sheet.
I’m not getting DSD 64, but instead it’s being converted to 352.8/32. I’ve checked all the settings and cannot see why.
The streamer is SGC Optical Rendu, and using Roon. Ordered an AirLens which should arrive later this week, and I’ll see if it’s any different, but I’m wondering if anyone knows why?
More info, just hooked my other DAC back up and now I’m getting DSD 64, so the issue lies with the Stellar. Using USB input on both.
While all inputs are compatible with DSD, the supported DSD rates might vary slightly depending on the input used. For example, the I2S input can handle higher DSD rates than the USB input.
This was also a head-scratcher for me when I first fired-up my SGD with Roon. You have to set your sampling preferences in Roon Muse. By default Roon cranks everything up to the maximum PCM sample rate. Create a Muse preset and choose what sample rate you want for all of the possible native rates you may use including DSD. In my case, DSD64 in upsampled to DSD128. I keep DSD128 and DSD256 at the native rates. Once it’s set up, everything is flawless and is represented perfectly on the SGD display.
I’m not understanding what you mean.
I looked in those settings, I don’t see one that says to send the signal as DSD unchanged. It’s already changing it to 384.
And… That doesn’t explain why it works properly with my other DAC using the same settings.
Mine all say default in the right hand collum, which should be correct to output the signal without alteration.
All my drop downs only have an option to downsample. I think the first screen shot shoes that
I don’t have any of those options.
I have Roon 2.53 which is the latest version.
The difference I see is that you are using an AirLens. I’m using a Small Green Computer Optical Rendu. Maybe the different streamers have different options in Roon?
It’s been solved over at the Roon forum.
Basically " * set DSD Playback Strategy to “DSD over PCM (DoP)”.
This method wraps DSD in a PCM stream, which may be accepted by DACs that don’t support native DSD but still support DSD via DoP."
I had to do this through the OpticalRendu settings.
That made it work correctly.
PS Audio crew, what about this? The owner’s manual says it should support DSD through USB.
