Stellar Gold DAC Refuses to Boot

First post here and it’s a bit of a frustrating one. My 2 month old (refurbished) Stellar Gold DAC suddenly will not boot up. All I get is an audible click (relay?) sound when attempting to power up. No display or reaction in any way other than the initial click sound. Does anyone have any tips or tricks? The Stellar Gold worked perfectly and sounded beautiful before yesterday when I tried to boot it up. I listen to my system daily and I’m dead in the water at the moment, very frustrating. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Check the fuse.

I actually just did. Resistance was well within range at .3 ohms. I assume the DAC has endured a serious internal failure of sorts. :frowning:

Turn it off completely and let it sit a while unplugged. May not work but worth a try.

Did that as well. Left it unplugged overnight and tried to boot again this morning.

Also tried holding blue button in while powering on.

Thank you for the suggestions. All are appreciated.

I looked at Paul’s video on it and didn’t see a second internal fuse so short of that it looks like it’s going back to Boulder.

I am sorry you are experiencing this frustration. I have a whole stack of PS Audio gear I have purchased new. I only ever had one issue that I had to get repaired - my P12 went berserk after a few days and I sent it back. PS audio fixed it quickly and without hassle. I hope you enjoy the same quick pain-free service that I did.

Looks that way. I’ll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Thanks Tom, I’ll contact them tomorrow. Such bad timing, entire family is here today and several wanted to hear my 2 channel system. Maybe next time.

I’m looking forward to having it back in my system, it was really sounding beautiful.

Sorry it didn’t work out, Even though the fuse in the Stellar tested good with a meter it might be worth putting a new one in just in case.

Are the fuses in PS Audio gear really that sensitive? I’ve never blown a fuse in any high end gear for 30+ years? If so I’ll be sure to order some to keep on hand. Down time from my music is the worst.

This equipment does not typically blow fuses.

However, it is inexpensive to test with a new fuse to make certain it is not a simple fix.

Okay, good. All of the fuse talk had me concerned. This is my first PS Audio piece and I enjoyed it very much for the two months it has been in my 2 channel system. Looking forward to a long relationship once she is repaired. Thank you!

I’ve never blown a fuse on the PS Audio gear I’ve had. But, because it is simple and cheap to replace, it is a good trouble shooting step. However, the fact that you tested the fuse continuity I would think the fuse is not the problem.

Agreed. Looking forward to speaking with them tomorrow morning.

No nothing different about the fuses PSA uses and the ones I’ve checked have in fact been better ceramic fuses than most companies use. But still, they can go bad for no reason. I keep spares of the standard sizes laying around for emergencies.

I have seen fuses which appear to exhibit continuity but which are actually bad.

When I talk with them I’ll see about getting a few extra fuses to have on hand.

I blew a fuse on my Perfect Wave Transport. I got up from the couch and walked over to change a disk, and apparently had built up some static charge in the process. When I touched the Transport there was small static discharge between my finger and the case that blew the fuse. It was an easy change but now I always make sure to “ground” myself before touching my gear. Hopefully PSA can get you sorted out quickly and back in action.
