Stellar phonostage, totaly useless

Well, family came with the kids!

kids love to touch everything!

So my Stellar phono-stage, I discover, is totally useless without the remote…!

Brand new, or is it? in Canadian market, you will never know!

Well the unit is less than a month old,

I took me 6 hours to find it back, “the remote” after the kid hide the remote and turn off the phono stage!

And that remote is cheap cheap cheap!

it is the same type of remote Shanling use that broke so often with the ET3.

Since my purchase for the phono stage was a leap of faith by mail ordering from the marchand seller,

I didn’t know that or didn’t read enough (it happen with leap of faith!!!)

I have found the remote a bit shaky, but work for now!

My mistake, didn’t investigate on that, but for me, that’s the kind of no go for a product, that work only with a remote!

To late to return and ask my money back!

It is a shame to build a so great product, that work with remote only and put a 0.99$ remote with it!

very disappointed! D… kid or thanks, for pointing that fragility out!

I am ignoring you from now on.

You do have a point, but in reality it’s just not that big of a deal. I’m sure if you lost your remote permanently you could contact PSA and get a replacement. Shouldn’t be pricey either. Performance is the important thing, and that is great.

I thought you said goodbye for good. Now you are back to complain?

My phono stage remote decided to take a walk in the shipping box and arrived broken in half. I was a bit upset when I discovered that you needed the remote to take it out of mute until I learned that a long press on the standby button does that. Once set up for your cartridge, you don’t need the remote-take the batteries out and put it with all that other stuff you can’t bear to throw away just yet. Of course, when that upgrade bug strikes and you have a spare $1K or more for a new fangled cartridge, just don’t forget where you put it or buy another for $10.00 or so from PS Audio.

I am!

thanks for reminding me!

Canadian market is a different ball game, than the US, I have learn that in the last 3 weeks!

and pardon me if I offended you, that was not my intention!

but thanks for the reminder!

it seems, DAC update is not easy to?

thanks for the heads-up with the power button!

it is appreciated

@vieuxradio I was lucky to have had the PS Audio “universal metal remote” that mimick’s most of the plastic remotes functions. I have a Broadlink Universal remote that works all PS Audio Stellar Phono Preamps’ functions.

The plastic remote is wonky but then so are all the Stellar series remotes. I guess its a price point thing.

But the sound is just out of this world IMHO. Kudos to Darren Myers !

Yup, I contacted support, but, from what i read here, this happen a few time before, sorry to post a fourth thread on the subject!

and sorry for annoying you!

Change my setup place and put out of reach for kids, since my step brother, could not manage his kids!

PS audio, still sound amazing! with a bit of solder, I fix it!

And My Apologies to All!

even the rude one!

What is it that you need the remote for on a daily basis? Mine has been exiled behind the phono stage for more than a year and I play vinyl every day. I just wonder why you think it is totally useless. And I hope that either: you have a really cheap cartridge on your turntable; or you can keep the kiddos away from the cantilever.

With respect,

Huh!

one shell + cartridge for Jazz Denon 103;

one classical Grado Sonata [Iron Magnet];

one for Rock and Country Shure V15;

and One Denon DL80 for Ambient and new Age!

Btw, anyone know, if we could use MM and MC input together, not playing together, but in Alternance?

Also, I had to secure my HiFi, from relative, so it won’t happen Again!

Yup, My turntable allow me to change my cartridge! it is detachable…!

Still searching for a turntable without tonearm, that could accommodate my 12 inch Jelco tonearm? any clue? please share! [Also a detachable cartridge]

like my pass away father said, why you still purchase music, you have plenty to listen!

Because, that how HiFi works! disc_over; Disc_over and Disc_over! more, more, more!

i don’t drink, but i buy record!

In case, we forgot!

Now I’ve got it. Actually, I did realise that the phono stage resets to MM when powered off from the rear switch. I am lucky (for several reasons) to be 2 miles from the local fire/EMS station and on the same power sub network so we almost never loose power (actually, wouldn’t matter as I use the default MM settings with my ortofon 2MR LMB. Cool that you can swap for different genres. I believe that two tone arms can be attached to the Stellar phono stage at the same time as long as one is MC and the other MM. Maybe 3M Command velcro strips to attach the remote to the side of the phono stage.

I have had similar scenarios where a power outage reset the Stellar Phono stage to MM and I have an MC cart. The only way to change it is with the original remote. Yes, a BHK pre remote works to unmute the phono, but that’s it.

While this is inconvenient, I must say that it is ABSURD to call the stellar phono “totaly useless [sic]” because it needs a remote to operate. Try using your TV or cable box without a remote, or getting into and starting your car without a FOB. A $50k automobile is rendered useless without a cheap plastic FOB.

Perhaps there is a cultural and language barrier getting in the way of the OP making his point, but regardless it is a rather inflammatory worded post to say the least.

I have been told that sometimes I am too subtle. Your point is what I was aiming at with my posts. So again, perhaps a bit too subtle but even on an island with no power source, the phono stage could be used to keep the beach towel from blowing away, following Spalding out to sea.
