All his stuff disappeared off both streaming services for a while and just a few are showing back up. This week is probably the first time I have listened to him in over a year so getting re-aquainted. I picked up the Three Blind Mice import CD due to all the accolades about the recording. Just showed up a couple of hours ago.
HorizonSun Ra and His Solar Arkestra, the first recorded visit of the Arkestra performing at Cairo’s Ballon Theater. Seems the band is more than slightly motivated by the locale, audience, and Egyptian vibe. An all important Sun Ra release made available on Strut/Art Yard.
I love my local rekid store (Scotti’s, Summit, NJ)
I saw this and snatched it up today based on the lineup but knowing nothing about Sonny Red.
He’s meh. But it’s a great album; excellent SQ.
Rudy did it.
It is a nice line up and a fine Blue Note, but as you say on the alto nothing profound here. Jackie McLean’ Destination Out! is a bit more interesting to these ears.
Picked this up on a whim, thinking it may not be my thing. My bias being Andre Previn may be a bit stodgy for a jazz trio. Not so, this set swings! The Craft reissue serves the music well.
