Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” Sony SICP 30267~8 Blu-Spec CD2, disc 2

This is the remix. The remix is great. But I prefer the original. . . in this case familiarity does not breed contempt.

I’ve been holding off on these…the samples are intriguing, but I’m gun shy when it comes to new vinyl. Probably will go with the downloads…

“Presenting Oscar Moore”

Oscar Moore with Inez Jones “Have you Met Miss Jones?”

Two LPs on one gold cdr from High Density Tape Transfers. The great sound of Mr. Moore, famed as a member of the Nat King Cole Trio

I get the “gun shy” with new vinyl as recently some vinyl I ordered from the EUE did not survive the journey. I need to re-evaluate downloads, especially for Butcher, etc. I am finding many edgier artists that utilize the BandCamp platform are walking away from CDs altogether. Some are embracing cassettes. I guess the latter is the newest hipster fetish. In its day I had perceived cassettes as a convenient playback medium suited for the more mobile listener, e.g. car playback and walkmans.

As I said earlier the John Butcher releases look intriguing, but the upfront outlay and potential for shipping damage from the EU has me on the fence.

Revisited this which I like a lot, based on a review of their most recent release, which I have yet to listen to. Regarding a Time Like This the third track A Fine Mess is a stand-out.

Recent release, Other Zones, featuring Tim Berne, Craig Taborn, Michael Formanek and Gerald Cleaver.

Pretty heavy lineup on ‘other zones’!

Rev. Frank Wright’s Unity, a live set from the 1974 Moers Festival. The live piece features Bobby Few, Alan Silva and Muhammad Ali. An intense performance, at time Frank Wright seems possessed, as he just lets loose. This is a dense and raucous performance.

A favorite line-up of mine. Sure would like to see them play again in the Midwest. Others I like which I’d like to see again in the Midwest include Son of Goldfinger Trio (Berne/Torn/Smith), and Broken Shadows Quartet (Chris Speed/Tim Berne/Reid Anderson/Dave King). Pre-Covid, these ensembles were touring and easier to book.
