I’ve been playing that a lot lately.
Archie Shepp Shepp A Massy U-JAAMA (unite). Likely one of the last of Archie Shepp’s freer concerts, similar to his BYG Actuel releases. Featuring Dave Pullen, Charles Greenlea, Beaver Harris, and Cameroun Broun (sic).
Just ordered a couple of UHQR jazz classics that are now in stock. I will cmpare it with my regular AP 45’s. The regular AP 45’s are mind blowers, so let’s see if UHQR’s are any better. Kind of pricey at $150 an album though.
These too have been on my mind recently. Difficult for me to pass up on Bill Evans. The recent Craft LP reissues have been sublime. Reports ore these are superior. I look forward to your listening impressions, as I make for additional shelf space. This box sets displace 8 - 10 lPs each,
Continuing with Archie Shepp, a duet double LP re-issue Max Roach Archie Shepp Force - Sweet Mao - Suid Afrika
You picked the right ones. They stand apart from the rest imo.
In my experience UHQRs are not a guarantee.
I would rate these two as must have.
My experience with UHQRs, and One Steps has been hi and miss. But if these are the real deal, then they will be here soon enough.
I feel very comfortable recommending both of them.
I take you you purchased each.
oui.
It’s good.
Do you have any thoughts on this one?
A friend at Chicago’s 606 Record shop in the Pilsen neighborhood highly recommended this Soul Music compilation on the Mississippi/Cairo Records Label. It parallels some of the finest compilations on the Numero Uno Label. Soul Music fans will be pleased with this one.
I’m too lazy to pull up my own images from various Pilsen visits. Pilsen is home to the National Museum of Mexican Art, featuring the works of Frida Kahlo as well as many other notable artists.
Also some excellent food in Pilsen, such as 5 Rabanitos.
Never heard that one.
I love this album although I don’t listen to it a lot. I wouldn’t be inclined to collect different versions searching for the holy grail.
Mostly this album is about memories flooding back of my father, listening to it on his Marantz/Thorens/JBL system, in the dark with me next to him.
Mr Weedaroonie----I learn from you. Thanks.
OOPs, somehow this ended up in a jazz thread. Great double LP set all the same.
