Hello everyone,
I tried to update my DSD Sr. according to the manual.
I downloaded the files, coppied to a formatted SD Stick and stuck on the DSD Sr with the device turned off.
When I turned on DSD Sr. the screen did not flicker.
It went black.
I waited a few minutes and the device started on its own.
I went to settings and noticed that it said Sunlight in firmware info.
Even if the screen does not blink, did it copy all files normally?
I tried to redo the procedure but my screen does not flash. It is off and after a few minutes the device starts.
Has anyone else had this problem?
The blue power button light should blink not the screen.
If the screen says you have Sunlight installed chances are everything is fine.
I ended up decreasing the toe-in of my speakers by 2 degrees on each (using the iPhone compass measuring trick) after 6 days of listening to music with Sunlight.
Not to say that I shouldnāt have done this pre-Sunlight, but I found that it added a bit of needed body to the affair while preserving all the sonic benefits so many have reported here and elsewhereā¦
Just for the record, with previous releases I have always noticed a single very quiet click when switching between DSD and non DSD recordings. With Sunshine the click is noticeably loader
Thatās been my experience too, well at
least since Windom. I started to notice it when I started using the I2S input. Sometimes the pop is quieter, sometimes louder when switching between DSD and PCM sources. Iāve also noticed that with Sunlight, stopping HQPlayer (Windows version) after playing a DSD source and starting VLC (using the DS DAC for audio) I get a very load and distorted sound. Iāve found the workaround is to make sure you play a PCM source through HQPlayer before stopping it or to just use the Windows sound panel to run a test tone in order to reset the interface.
I have the original Bridge installed on my DS DAC. The rendition of album art through the various OS releases has always been, the kindest way to put it is quirky. By that I mean when going from one track to another in a playlist drawn from different albums sometimes the album art would transition properly but not always and could get āstuckā on a previous track, Usually it would eventually catch up and display the current trackās correct album art.
I find with Sunlight that after a short while it gets stuck and stays there. The verbal description of what track is playing also freezes and in some cases doesnāt even match the track from the album art being displayed. The description of the songās length, bit rate and depth, phase, etc. does update with each new track but thatās pretty much the only accurate information.
This may not apply to users of the Bridge II ā I donāt know. I realize that this has to do with the PIC and not the FPGA (I think) but it has definitely gotten stepped on with this OS. This isnāt a showstopper for me because Sunlight sounds so darn good but it is disappointing.
When I had Oppo205 as a transport, there was a loud click whenever I played SACD. But since I started using PST, the clicking noise went away. Both are using I2S.
My source is Auralic G2 via Matrix
Maybe all non PSA SACD transports have this issue, but I donāt know why.
If an update for the bridge is planned, I would be very happy if this update then would solve the existing gapless playback problems the Bridge II currently still has.
Regards the DSJ I thank you for the work around because the behaviour now does suppress an auto switch from CD (connected on coax) to radio (connected optical) out of a sudden, whenever silent passage on the CD lasts too long. So the issue turned into a feature!
Cheers Michael
Just installed it and I had no issues. It plays different formats but I cant comment on sound yet.
Tanks for the upgrade, this is such a smart system.
cheers
Michael
Welcome back.

Hi Ted:
As I understand, the DSD seems to sound better without the Bridge II. As I have already installed it, if I remove it, just to check what happens, and since the DSD was āupdatedā when I installed the Bridge II, will the DSD work perfectly well if it is removed? I am seriously thinking of removing it permanently and keep it for when I sell the DSD to buy the new dac. The only rrason to use it has been to listen to MQA files, which, at least to me, do nothing for the sound. But I need to know if there is something else I should do besides removing the Bridge II.
No, you can just remove it. Be sure to store it carefully, static shocks can kill it (or almost any electronic assembly). If you have a conductive plastic bag (usually pinkish or like nickel) thatās the best. Otherwise perhaps an aluminum foil ābagā pressed firmly against the back of the board.
I am planning on getting the Debafrips Gaia DDC. It will convert the usb output of a music server to I2S. I already have the SOtM tx Ultrausb Special Edition with an Sbooster power supply and it helps to clean the usb signal. However, I want to stream native dsd up to 256 with the server and that must be done using the DSD I2S input.
I understand that the DSD usb input can handle DoP dsd, not native dsd. I communicated with Paul and TJ via email and they told me so. They told ne taht if I want native dsd, it must be through the I2S input. Furthermore, the source must comply with the PS Audio I2S protocol. That is why I am thinking of acquiring the Denafrips Gaia DDC as its I2S output can be tuned to PS Audioās I2S protocol. My present music server can output native dsd through I2S and usb, but it us a linux based server and the PS Audio sees only DoP through its I2S input. By using the Denafrips I will be able to stream the native dsd from the server through its usb, the Denafrips will then give me the native dsd through its I2S output compliant with PS Audioās I2S input.
But remember thereās no practical difference between DoP and native DSD with the DS. They both deliver the exact same DSD bits. In fact the DS turns native DSD into DoP before it leaves the I2S receiver. Itās best to see if you can hear a difference in your system and then which is best. It will depend on the source more than the DS.
Thanks Ted. If that is so, it will save me $$ and trouble. Anyway I am waiting for the new dac and PS Audio server/streamer.
See, this is what I just donāt get. Denafrips can create this awesome device that will turn almost anything including USB into an I2S out - except for Ethernet, and other people seem to be able to make Ethernet to USB converters for like $15. Why isnāt anyone making an Ethernet in / I2S out device? It canāt be that hard.
