Looking forward to hearing about your experience with these…
Where would you suggest starting first? Amp, line conditioner, DAC?
The review is very much in line with my impression on SDFB. Very interestingly Tom mentioned Puron AC conditioners and Apos Ray tubes that I am currently using too (Both made quite an impression also). I think he was using the gold-plated copper sluggo for the review, and that was the one I liked the least. However, I should go back to it again now the FB is totally burn-in along with an upgraded power cord (much better than the piggy tail). I also want to try the pure copper sluggo that some of you like very much (again).
I think you meant the Puritan line conditioner. Been using one for a few months now, phenomenal performance for the money.
Ah, just checked, there is Puron line conditioner. Wasn’t familiar with that brand.
There is Puritan, then there is Puron. Did I hear both from Luca, again? He has improved my system more than anyone else from this forum.
I first tried one Puron plug-in on P15, I like it so much that I put one more on Puritan too. It is a nice enhancement of both P15 and Puritan. When I removed one of them there was something missing in the system.
I can’t definitively say what is best. It’s a matter of kit specifics and personal priorities in my opinion.
That said, if you have a power conditioner, pre-amp and a DAC I think any of these three would be the place to start. And, for what its worth, I thought the DAC would be the best candidate for starting out or picking a piece of kit if you were only going to get one of these (at least initially). But Mark Schifter recommended I start with my PSA P10 regenerator in my system. His next up recommendation was my PSA DS Sr. DAC.
I went with Mark’s recommendation and replaced the P10 fuse with a SDFB. The positive effects were surprisingly evident as I have reported previously.
I don’t think you can go wrong with your first purchase, but I still lean toward this order:
Power Conditioner/Regenerator
Preamplifier
DAC
Amplifier (depending on the quality of the power supply and its compliment of fuses)
Followed by whatever else with what I would expect to be diminishing returns - but that is just speculation.
I have a second SWDF gathering dust because I have been too lazy to take the top off of my modified DS Sr. DAC to install the “Sluggo”.
I hope this helps some.
Have fun.
I think this is the way, so to speak (but I have never bothered to try any other Sluggos Mark supplied me with. )
This is another Vera-Fi Audio offering.
FYI.
Good to know about the Puron, I’ll be adding that to list of future tweaks.
This company has quite a few hits on their hands.
Do you plug it into one of the Puritan outlets, or in a receptacle next to it?
Plug into the first receptacle closest to the power cord, same with power generator. This was from a couple of users from another forum, but it seems it is effective at other locations as well.
I haven’t tried the Verafi Puron because before they either came out or before I heard about them I began using Shunyata Research Defenders.
These captivated me. I bought one, and put it in the same outlet as the P15 is plugged into (then I was using a P10 I think). LIked that, tried a Furutech Clearline as well in various places. . . did not like what that did to the system, and traded it to another nut for another Defender. I really liked that, I put it in the same outlet on the back of the P15 as my then preamp. Made a difference I liked. Something came over me and I bought more. . .my current set up is that there is one each in the outlet shared by my amp, my DSD Mk II DAC, my Perfectwave SACD transport my amp and my Decware ZROCK2. Subtle noise reduction with each but the overall presentation still remains natural sounding, not bleached or etched or harsh. The final outlet has my NuWave phono converter and my Rega power supply unit plugged into it, no room for a Defender.
I have the Snubway on the way. I’ll try it first in the outlet the P15 is plugged in to and put the Defender currently there into the outlet on the other wall from the one the P15 is plugged into, the nearest outlet to the system.
Here comes the nightmare. I had all the extra sluggos put in a paper box on the table, and we did a cleanup before our vacation.
I spent the last hour looking everywhere and I could not find the box. So, I have one Rhodium/Silver solid sluggo in P15 and that was it. I hope one day the box will show up, or I am stuck with this one. The only good news is I like the sound better than others before our vacation.
I’m still looking for my 100 foot roll up Craftsman tape measure that I used last year. Thing is almost 50 years old. It was my dad’s.
I have a hard time sleeping at night if I can’t find something that’s where it’s suppose to be, or where I thought I left it last. After exhausting all possible locations, it’s time to start looking where it shouldn’t be.
Thanks, Donald.
Yes for Puritan I’m the culprit! Not for Puron, sorry.
I used to use the Furutech NCF Clearline, don’t like them anymore so I keep them plugged into a secondary power distributor (not dedicated) with LED switched power supply and other noisy non audio stuff.
Out of curiosity I’m trying one in my Puritan, close to IEC inlet… after having read your post above.
Mmm after a few songs I can confirm: don’t like it! It boosts the sound in an unnatural way.
The NCF products seem to emphasize on detail more than musicality. They work better with PSA generators than Puritan PSM-156 I would imagine.
Puron sounds quite different than my other Furutech NCF stuff, and it should work better than NCF filter in your system.
Donald, Puron regular blades or Puron Furutech blades?
This is the one Luca and I were talking about; a plug-in conditioner. It got great reviews. They sell SDFB too.
I know, but they make two varieties. One has a Furutech plug, the other does not.
I did not know that. I ordered two as shown in the picture above.
