BHK 300’s use small fuses. Unless you meant amperage. I have rail fuses too. But I use HiFiTuning Supreme. The sound does improve incrementally.
Anyone upgrade fuse in their power plant? Any worth while improvements?
I was happy with the results of upgrading to a Blue fuse in my P20. The improvement was minor but I did think I could hear an improvement in transient detail.
I’m thinking taking advantage of the 3 for 2 special. I have a BHK Pre, DSD Snr and a P12 - I assume the best approach would be to get one fuse for each?
Yes.
Could someone provide a SCIENTIFIC, ENGINEERING, TECHNICAL explanation why a FUSE could possibly improve sound? Why would PS Audio put a crappy fuse, IF they could improve their sound by a better fuse? Heck WHY hire Bascom H. King to design an amplifier? Just put a fuse in it, charge double and be done!
We have discussed this many times. People have tossed out a few hypothesis, but nothing approaching a definitive explanation.
In other words, just like everything else Synergetic Research makes, it’s nothing but marketing. This company is the worst example of Audiophile companies, their fake demos at Axpona completely exposed them to me.
@abeiklou Paul has a video on this topic and explains the PS Audio philosophy on fuses.
Some of SR products are in fact good. Some defy credulity and science. You need the choose the ones that actually work.
The bigger problem with aftermarket fuses is the tolerances. Many posted tolerances are not actual values and this could be a expensive problem.
I have long wondered if their stated amperage values had anything to do with reality, but how do you know they are indeed not actual values?
Possibly, their snake oil sales ppl at AXPONA absolutely turned me off ANYTHING they make. It was such a blatant fake, wasn’t even funny. I went from their room, then to Audioquest room, and that made me appreciate Audioquest way more as a company (they’re kinda not respected in Audiophile community), as their demos were REAL, no marketing and hypnosis was used and made HUGE difference in sound while SR was trying to hypnotize you to believe you heard a difference when there was none.
I really dislike their marketing based approach to “engineering” explanations. I take it as just carnival barker crap.
I once spent a lot of money on one of their power cables and no matter how long The Cable Co let me “burn it in”, it never sounded any better than the stock cable (on my DSD) and I sent it back for a refund.
All that said, their Blue fuses have been money well spent, even though the concept of a fuse upgrade makes no sense to me.
I just ordered an Orange for a new component.
So I took advantage of the special that SR Is offering buy 2 get 1 free. They are not replacing any of the Blue fuses. They will go into my PSA P15, Bryston BDA-3, and my Gold Note PSU-10.
FWIW, I have the Blues in a complete PSA BHK rig and the improvement
gained went in this order…DMP, DAC, Pre, 300’s (mains not rails) and P20.
Like Ron, I heard little improvement if any on the P20. On balance, good
fuses are the best bang for the buck tweak.
Anyone tried SR fuses in turntables such as VPIs, and/or phono preamps?
I have an Orange fuse on the way for my Gold Note PSU-10 power supply for my PH-10 phono preamp. I’ll report back when installed.
Can I use 1.6 A in DSD Sr, its rated for 1A, but I like to use the fuse in my SPP as well in case it doesnt work out for the dac
If it’s rated for 1A then use 1A. I don’t understand why anyone would want to either use a higher or lower value then what is recommended.
