Wonderful system. Before going with monitors (Diablo?) and subs - as I also have with Harbeth m30.2s and HSU ULS-15 MK2s - did you consider any Focal floorstanders? I’m thinking about Kanta 3s (music only).

Nice system @klamia71

I too am a huge fan of Canary Audio. I have had the Reference Two monoblocks for a few months now and had an opportunity to upgrade to the new Grand Reference monoblocks. They are so new, they are not even on the Canary website yet. Took almost 4 months to have built and delivered but worth every second of waiting! The built quality is freakishly great! I am fortunately near their production facility and was able to meet John the owner who built my new amps by hand. Such a genuinely great guy. He builds equipment for lots of high end companies that slap their labels on the equipment. Anyway, I just took delivery on Saturday and have been immersing myself in these amps for the last few days.

I had the balanced inputs installed on the Grand Reference amps so I can take advantage of the XLR outputs on my preamp. Major transformation! I had no idea how much better the balanced outputs are on the DS DAC.

i think that diablos ( i had a pair of them before viva"s) and subs is the best you can choose. in my opinion , kanda are subordinate speakers than diablo’s.
so go for them!!!
but you have to much them with extreme caution.

I second their build quality. I used to own a pair of CA-339MK-II and CA-906. Wow was that some nice gear.

oh my god!!! im so jealous …lololol
you are so lucky that you are at the sates and living near the canary factory!!
these are monsters of beauty
here in greece these are cost a small fortune and its difficult to upgrade mine.
never the less ref ones are so musical and lovely amps so im happy with them.
Did you use psaudio as pre?

For a pre-amp, I just purchased a Purity Audio Design “Reference” preamp that I am actually picking up today! When I got the new Canary’s with the balanced inputs, my prior preamp (single-ended) no longer worked. Ive had my eye on this Purity preamp for some time and felt it was time to pull the trigger.

I am sure your Reference One’s will last a lifetime. I just had to load them in my SUV to drive home and at 150lbs each, that was a chore. I could not imagine having to ship these things!

MinnesotaFats: A beautiful set up! How long did it take you to dial in the 20.7s?

Last night and since late afternoon today, I’ve actually been able to sit and relax a little bit in front of the system in the new house. Spinning some vinyl, streaming some albums, and I have realized that this is the absolute best these NHT 2.9’s have ever sounded. Extremely neutral sounding, ultra tight, punchy, detailed bass, very natural sounding vocals, and excellent extended treble without ever sounding forward, bright, harsh or brittle. They’re smooth and airy with just the right amount of crispness.

It seems that with this PS Audio gear and these amps with loads of balls, they control these speakers with an iron fist, never show signs of stress, compression or fatigue no matter what I throw at them, and the amps simply remain nearly cold to the touch, just as if they are sitting idle the entire time. And the NHT’s just gulp them up without a flinch.

And since I finally have the NHT’s in a room that I can set them up near optimally along with the listening position, I am getting amazing stereo imaging and staging for the first time ever with these speakers. Depending on the music, it sounds like I have surround sound speakers in the room! A nice wide sound stage that expands out to and possibly just beyond the side walls as well as stage depth.

If am capable of getting this kind of sound stage and imaging with these M700 monoblock amps, I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of staging and imaging I would get if I were to ever upgrade to the BHK 250 amp. Then again, I wonder how that amp would compare to the M700’s as far as having control over the NHT 2.9’s 10" woofers. I mean, that’s something Class D amps are known for.

Either way, I am in love right now. Realize that I have owned these speakers for 10 years now and they have ALWAYS had sub-par performance for me in the stupid apartments that we’ve lived in for the past 10 years. Poor imagining, no staging to speak of except for just between the speakers, and not much else. Not anymore. And the biggest contributor to all of these improvements is of course the room. But having this gear ahead of them also helps out a lot.

Looking nice!
Curious about how you’re speakers look like

I first took a vacation and left them running for a week straight while I was gone. They have been relatively easy to set up in my rather large room 28x19x8. I actually move them further apart for orchestral and big band pieces and tighten them up for solo artists. They sound great in a variety of positions. They did not like absorptive panels behind them I love the experience they are providing me and my guests.
