Very nice looking system. How do you like the GoldenEars?

GE Triton Ref’s…they meet and exceed the hype.

Hi there, very nice setup, just wondering: do you turn the Quad speakers when listening?

There are so many allegedly good phono amps around these days, it ridiculous. I paid $800 for the $1,400 Vertere, which is way better than a Tellurium Q one I had 7 or 8 years ago. Totally silent with 0.25mV output. Then Cyrus Signature, Trilogy 906 and 907, two new ones from Chord in the last year, Huei and Symphonic, and the Rega Asia. The Chord Symphonic is almost twice the price of the SPP in the USA but only 10% more than the SPP in the UK. MC only, which suits me.

What are the Zus sitting on?

I found a slate mine in Virginia and had the bases cut to my specs. Shipping wasn’t cheap.

Hahaha

Not sure what you are referring to…but the Shakti Hallograghs are “tuned” by turning the tops either toe in or toe out…and yes, they do make a very significant difference in my room.

I like the look of those speakers, what are those?

Having posted pictures of my turntable (on request) and my carpentry skills for the server and ethernet stuff, here is a pic I posted elsewhere the other day.

Ha, completely hidden, wife-friendly stashed equipment. Smart, never saw it before like that! You even can play closed

Steven, it looks fantastic, I really like it.

I have 2 questions:

  1. So which parts are made by your creative hands?
  2. Which SubWoofer (assuming the unit on the left hand side is one) do you combine with the (assumption again) Harbeths?

It is closed unless I play records. The benefit of using Roon and a system that detects from sleep and switches itself on and off. The top lid is heavily damped, does not move under its own weight, so I can close it when playing records, or just leave it a few inches open, which gets rid of airborne vibrations. The dampers last about 5 years but for $60 a pair it’s effective and I don’t worry about our cleaner removing styli.

I had a discussion with a manufacturer recently. I thought wall-mounting was best, but you still get vibrations up walls and airborne vibrations. Turntable lids seem to have gone out of fashion, but they serve a purpose.

Do you honestly believe I made any part of such a thing?

The sub is from these people. https://www.bkelec.com
They have a huge range of products and finishes, are very cheap and ship anywhere. They are perfectly OK. They used to make on a subcontract basis for REL.

REL only do black or white and they have a massive profit margin. This 400w sub cost £550 and the REL S/812 is £2,300. Trying to get one on home demo, will not spend that money unless it is worth it, not all REL dealers have demo stock as it is quite a new product. Apparently it is a step up from the REL 5/SHO.

Thanks Steven,
Then where did you find that great cabinet and the perfectly matching stands for the speakers?
