Solen caps are just ok, a little dry sounding, but if you want to really see how good your speakers can sound, try Mundorfs. Caps can make one hell of a difference.

I really like the composition of the picture. Kurt Vonnegut-ish, your realism is my fantasy.

Thanks

I’ve had good results with Clarity Caps too (and they are made just down the road in Wrexham, although sadly I don’t know anyone who works there!)

Another good one is V-Cap ODAM. These are extremely transparent sounding. I tried it in with tweeters and the air was so pure and extended. With the midrange, the presence was incredible! These don’t cost as much as the really boutique caps, but they are very impressive nonetheless.https://www.v-cap.com/odam-capacitors.php

I need to find someone locally to loan me a pair of speakers while I recap. I only know two people within 30 minutes of me that have any appreciation for audio and one of them has an old Carver amp. Does he count?

I would like to do one speaker first then put both of them back online so I can do a comparision and see just how well the upgrade is.

I forgot to mention, I have new diaphragms on the way from France for the 1" dome tweeters and the 2" dome midrange drivers. I think it’s the 2" dome midranges that gives these speakers their unique sound.

expensive though - especially at HiFi collective

They can cost 3 or 4 hundred US dollars for a couple of caps, but well worth it, if you plan to keep you speakers for awhile. The crossover is one of most critical part most speaker company scrimp on because of the added cost, but it is also an area that degrades the sound of the speakers the most.

joma0711 that’s a nice store. In most cases, I get parts and merchandise from the UK by Royal Mail faster than something I order from the US. I’m located in Canada.

I detected a very slight ‘fuzz’ on the left channel while playing some types of music. This is what prompted me to order new diaphragms for the two super tweeters and two midrange domes. I bought a couple of new Falcon 1" dome tweeters as a temporary replacements while I rebuild the Celestion tweeters. I replaced the tweeter on the left but still notice the fuzz. I am almost positive the fuzz is not coming from the 2" midrange driver. Is it possible the crossover is causing this and the problem is not with the diaphragms afterall?

Possible, but it could be the bass driver too, even if it’s a fizz rather than a lower freq buzz.
It is a nice site, great range of stuff, I used to use Falcon Audio too (smaller range but their custom wound inductors were good) but they seemed a little flaky last couple of times I used them The parts showed up in the end but they had stock issues. Probably Brexit-ralated!

Which Falcon tweeters did you use for the (temporary) HF2000 replacement if you don;t mind me asking?

I have two Carver amps in service, and one Sunfire amp.
I have been doing this a long time.

You are a good sport! I had Carver Pro amps before my MacIntosh and my buddy with the speakers I’'d like to borrow also swears by his Carver Pro.

Work Shop System:
The old Hitachi HMA-7500 MK2 amp I was using for a sub amp for about 15 years finally died, so had to scour around the shop for a bandaid. Had some old ILP amps I’d built many years ago, a DBX Crossover and a 15" Audiosphere woofer to accompany the AVI bandpass. That added the bottom end that had been missing. The old Luxman lost its surround board long ago but is still rock solid as a 2 channel.
There are two more 55" screens to the left and right of my usual work area for Saturday work days - when it is Concert Video day. Other than that the 4 screens display my security cameras/tech notes for my old eyes.
The upper ESS Heil dipoles are the daily drivers. They are quite outstanding.
The ever-changing speakers on the floor level row are run thru a Niles speaker selector and from my vintage stack. (the MG-IIIs and Altec Valencias get frequent airplay)
Video source: Nvidia Shield, Audio source - Roon via Cocktail Audio steamer.

If you’re gonna work 50 - 55 hours a week, make it enjoyable.
