System Photos!

Beautiful system, the speakers look like classic Tannoy, or is it another brand.

What we have in common (besides being married for decades) is that we seem to love our sources, vinyl, CD (in your case probably SACD) and streaming. I use each source depending on my mood.

My wife and my music taste differ. In our case I am the guy who also likes to listen to Rock, Electronic Music and the likes of Tears for Fears. My wife is very much into Gospel, Church Music and Classic. I like that too as I admire music being art. But my wife doesn’t share my taste at all, so good classic music and life performances (our Church has a beautiful organ, acoustics and great organ player).

So at home I need to invest in 2 systems, one in my home office and one in the living room. Investing in our hobbies is a common effort. She is the CFO as and interior director. The interior is something we both enjoy a lot and the sound system needs to fit in, on that we both agree. So selecting the right system requires thorough consideration and due to obvious limitations compromises. It surprises me every time again how much compromises turned out to be major successes. My Purify class D amp (NAD M33) matches the Buchardt Audio S400 SE so much, that I feel no need to replace any of that at all. It is a joy in our living room.

It’s another brand. Does Avantgarde ring a bell, Rudolf ?

Yes it does, my “off budget” absolute favorites. The interior designer won’t approve.

I like the looks and sound. Not the taste of the interior designer and the budget is off the charts says the CFO. So she would not even bother listening. Well, considering the “off budget” this is an academic issue.

just clarifying… are you asking which song on that album has the most plays?

I generally play albums all the way through, but it appears the first track “Alive Again” has a few more plays than the others. I’ve heard it come up a couple of times in Roon radio, so that’s probably it.

(But let me know if that’s not what you meant by your question.)

Yes they are Tannoy Kensington GRs. I like the old style wooden box look and the British sound. And the imaging from a single point source. I hear they’ve moved all their production to China except for the GR line being still in Scotland.

You have the perfect arrangement! My wife’s system is KEF LS50s in the living room and Apple AirPlay through them. She just cares about cranking up 70s and 80s music and dancing on the wood floor. She’s not the audiophile type.

The KEFs are quite good; I used to have them in my bedroom but wasn’t really using them much.

The Tannoy crew that designed and made the serious Tannoys like the Kensington started Fyne Audio.

My Dad has a 8.2 home cinema set up. 2 center speakers (large screen) left, right and the 4 surround speakers are all Tannoy Eyris center speakers in beautiful walnut finish. each of them are driven by Marantz monoblocks. The .2 sub woofers are > 240 liter self made walnut veneer cabinets with 2 x 12” drivers in each cabinet, each driver powered with 1000 W plate amps (enclosures are big enough for it).

He built a stage for the seats and installed butkick units below the stage. Just missing the sprinklers, wind blowers and hot airguns for a 4 dimensional experience . It sure is fun watching action movies there.

Current condition…

Lately I have been using my First Watt F2/j, this with the Backert Labs pre and the DSDAC, sounds so good my impulse to change anything is so low. The only thing on my list at the moment are some custom cable lifters for the Silversmith ribbon speaker cables.

Hello Chris,
Thank you for getting back to be so quickly.
Your album post prompted me to look it up on Qubuz.
As I was listing to the album I wondered if you were referring to a particular track and if you were, I wondered which one.

So now I know. Thanks for sharing with me…….

Hope you have a happy and safe New Year’s eve!
All the best,
Ian/sandrock

Francesco, just beautiful! The Avant-garde Acoustic Horn speakers are in my eyes and ears the most beautiful speakers. I heard them with an Octave A70 integrated tube amplifier (with super black box) and T+A digital HV Multisource player. The most beautiful audio equipment experience. I had to drive quite a distance to get to the dealer who had the speakers for demo. It was certainly worth the drive, have fun with your system.

Thank you. it is important to combine them with valuable amplifications. Viva Audio in my case.

The nice thing about the Avantgarde Hornspeakers: with 107 dB, they are so transparent, that you can identify the qualities of your, PS Audio digital front end, the Viva amps and analog front end.

I am sure those Viva components are up to the task they certainly look gorgeous.

I wondering - are the speakers KEF in the corners, or are the black boxes with grey boxes on top speakers as well? And the subwoofers in front of the main speakers?

Hey @stevensegal , the big black boxes are Klipsch La Scala’s. The LS50 on the outsides are just stored there (not in use). Yes the subs (REL T9x) are in front of the LaScalas but off towards the outside, from my listening position they do not obstruct the full view of the speakers.
