Tape loop is essential. I use mine, on the XP-22, to drive an integrated I use for outside speakers. Congrats on the pass gear. @RonP’s posts and comments convinced me to try pass. I bought in a few years ago. Could be the end of the line for me, depends on how many more paychecks are in my future. With a little luck, I’ve got some more. Do love the pass sound!
So far, I really love what I’m hearing from the XP-20. It’s allowing me to happily “rediscover” music I’ve listened to for years and years.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a photo of my listening room. Since my last full photo, I’ve added the the Technics RS-1500 Reel to Reel and the acoustic treatments. Next will be to paint the table that the R2R is on black so it doesn’t stand out so much.
I’m very open to suggestions if anyone has any other suggestions for what to do with that table.
R2R are just the coolest things
How’s the supplemental HVAC unit when its running - loud enough to be distracting?
RE: your original question –
Can you swap sides (place the table over the top of the right-hand sub) and move the R2R kit back far enough on the table (toward the front wall) to not have it be a potential first reflection point for your midrange and tweeter drivers?
Just a thought…
Thanks for the response.
With all of the electronics, the AC is needed in the summer. I take the AC out in the winter, and the R2R goes back further then.
I know you can’t tell, but at this time, the R2R is about 4 inches behind the speaker baffle.
I can’t put the table on the right because the bass trap would need to be raised. That would block the vent up there in the corner.
Well then, my solution was in search of a problem.
Does the AC unit make enough noise to “bother” you? I have been thinking about supplementing the AC in my room as well.
Cheers.
The AC is pretty quiet. It is noticeable, but noting that turning the volume up can’t fix
I definitely prefer winter listening to summer listening because of the AC. But I’d rather have it running than not be able to use the room in the summer.
If I were you no table at all.
- on the front wall, close to left and right corners, is there enough space?
- on the floor behind subs and rack
- two symmetrical shelves wall mounted (like the ones usually intended for TT) just over the subs
- moving forward speakers to increase the distance from the front wall
- a new rack, built on your needs, able to accept the P20 in it and RtR too
- rear wall is an option to place something?
- replacing the TV with a motorized screen and projector, to save room on front wall, different positioning and/or largest area for acoustic panels too
- building false ceiling between ceiling and front wall to incorporate a new AC permanent system, lights and motorized screen, able to maintain air exchange with outside
Instant thoughts, sorry if they seem stupid or not doable.
Thanks for the suggestions Luca. I see you are still in remodel mindset and with the spectacular results you achieved in your listening room, i should probably consider the same. You got me thinking now.
Thanks!
Once you fall down this rabbit hole you never go out, be aware… look at me! Good luck!
Really nice amp, what speakers will it be driving?
Always admired the “ hurricane” binding posts
Best,

FR20 speakers
Very nice indeed!
No. 534!!!
107lbs of fun!!!
How’s your back?
107 pounds actually wasn’t as bad as I thought. Obviously needed a hand truck to wheel the amp from the car to listening room. I should have made a video, LOL.
Sonus rug, Boulder pre and amp, DCS Rossini Apex Dac/streamer and Wilson speakers.
There were some nice Sonus speakers outside the room.
Yowza!. Quintessence in Morton Grove!
The Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC has landed.
Very early impressions:
Something magic is happening here. It’s subtle at first but holy sh*t I think I’m in love. Will report back over the weekend.
First component to arrive in a flight case. Fancy.
Edit: And of course I now need a Grove Engravers sign to go with the new gear. Joe Maza is awesome.
Edit 2: This DAC is still sneaky good and subtle but has that something magic maybe best described as having texture, depth and “juiciness”. It’s not going anywhere in the near future! Playing Alison Krauss “Loneliness Runs Both Ways” which is a favorite. Jerry D’s Dobro is mental.
