I have recognized you would like a bigger display given how you configured and use your system - but your requirements are unique in my experience and insuffient to justify declaring the display “a joke.”
Rather you have a preference for a BIG display. To understand this preference and place it in context, one needs to know what you are doing and how different this from what the rest of us are doing.
There are only a few DACs which meet your specific requrements for a very large volume display.
As for volume control, there are many products which increase or decrease digital volume losslessly. This has been the case for many years now.
To be clear, I am using the new firmware that makes the sample rate and input selection big. I cannot read the small print from my seat, that’s for sure.
We should see the new firmware for MK2 launch here in this month. It’s spectacular and it fixes the display size too.
Interesting discussion about displays here. Mine are turned off where I can-- just my preference.
The service manager from Pass Labs told me that they switched from two front panel indicator lights on their First Watt power amps, lights that have no connection to circuitry, to one light because a couple customers were complaining that the two were not the same brightness level–some even using a photometer to test. And they were convinced that they could hear that the channel levels were similarly unmatched. Hilarious.
When I first read tony22’s post, my initial reply was “Huh?!”. Right before I posted that, I noticed the little cake icon next to my name. Hovering my cursor over it explained everything to me. I immediately edited my response. LOL
I think the XP-20 is getting close to 10 years old, possibly a little newer. The Auralic is roughly 2.5 years old, the Stratos monos are 4 years old and the Schiit Mani is about 4 years old. Oh, and the Maggies and SVS subs are only a couple years old.
The rest of the gear is 30 years to 45 years old, and the Pioneer RT-1020L turns 51 this year!
