Are you connecting each sub to the stereo RCA, or mono L and mono R?
Left channel RCA out to left RCA input of left sub, right channel RCA out to right RCA input of right sub
Try RCA stereo out to one sub INPUT, and then daisy chain from sub OUT to the other sub.
What benefits would I gain doing it that way? Just curious…
Because the way you are currently doing it the subs are independent of each other. When you send them the same signal they then work together and get a better in-room bass response, smoothing out any peaks and troughs in the room.
Interesting. So the sub 40hz bass information is that different per channel? That logic would pretty much negate any benefits of running dual subs high level from separate amps, or separate channels from a stereo amp.
Yes. L and R are independent of each other. The bass from both isn’t combined on a single output. Unless you’re doing something whacky in your upstream signal processing.
Yes…understand that L and R are independent of each other, just didnt think that the low level bass information was that different per channel. Anyone else use this method?
Thanks for the info.
It’s just something you might experiment with, and then decide what works best in your particular room.
After more than a year of building / tweaking, here is our system to share with

Wife and I are pretty content with where we are and now we are focusing on collecting and enjoying the music:-)
Those are some pretty speakers. I like the fact that your record player left just enough room to fit the HPA1 and fill that blank spot perfect!
I do not have and I will not go back to the turntable (I chose SACD), but I look with pleasure on such structures.
Well taken photos conveying your passion of the audio.
Those speaker binding posts freak me out a little bit. They look very Wilson. Too much metal in close proximity for comfort, even if everything is clamped town tightly.
I have not shown it here yet. Here’s my system, it looks modest but gives a great sound. I only listen to SACD and CD discs.
Great to see a fellow First Watt J2 user here. Love the sound but my only complaint is the power switch on the back with no standby so it’s quite hard to reach. If I have the money for longer interconnects and power cords, I would flip around the amplifier - apparently that’s how Nelson Pass does it.

That said, wife would ban the dangling cables setup. It’s just hard for her to switch on the amplifer when she wants to listen.
Are you using the the PASS HPA-1 as a pre?
Hi n-tone; yes we are using HPA-1 as pre-amp; was inspired by Herb Reichert’s review of DeVore 3XL of which Herb mentioned this combo: 3XL, J2 and HPA-1; Turned out to be a very good synergy with audience cables; was thinking about upgrade with better pre-amp (Pass XP-22 or XP-30) and decided to fill the rest of rack with vinyl system (I grew up with Vinyl and enjoys both CD/SACD and Vinyls) and now run out of space; HPA-1 is decent pre-amp and we were surprised by its hidden capability (we haven’t use its headphone function); Thanks for your comments about J2, low power but it can sound big and punchy with right speaker (sensitivity >90 db); I like the fact you have a scope on top of XP-30 and that is part of our system as well (I use it to set the azimuth correctly:-)
Hi Brodric, The binding posts behind the J2 is even worse (veryclose to each other); I have to use Cardas adaptor to fit in subwoofer cables; Here is tool that I found quite helpful to properly tighten the speaker cables:
You’d think any first year mechanical engineering student would come up with a better speaker binding post design than what many speaker manufacturers currently use.
Drop dead gorgeous!
