The DMP experience

You are very welcome.

It is a frustrating issue for those having problems using the DMP as they want.

Yes I’m sure they do. But I still don’t understand why they wouldn’t be willing to release the codes for a product they no longer manufacturer.

Capitalism. Or human nature. Take your pick.

PS Audio has tried to obtain the code with no success.

Perhaps you will have better luck prying it out of Oppo’s hands.

Just a guess…but perhaps it has to do with controlling ownership of their codes…
but it wouldn’t seem to hurt to release it by way of licensing their codes…

Somehow…I quite sure Paul’s PS Audio team could come up with dandy one of their own
that would do a better job interfacing with DMP or DSD…

Anything those other guys do …Paul and team can do far better…I do believe that…!!!

Code like that should be held in escrow, and published under an open source licence in a situation like this. Ideally this could be mandated.
Logitech released all the squeezebox and slimserver stuff for example…

Way to go joma…like that…but consider Oppo’s home country… so mandating anything coming
out of there …well it would be miraculous…

Like your idea better than mine…

Give me 5 minutes in a closed room with whoever’s in charge at Oppo, I’ll retrieve the code.

Take ā€œOJā€ with you.

I am in. If only we knew where they were hiding. Somewhere in the wilds of China.

Now now Uncle Paul…no chatting up future secret ops…don’t want to let 'em in on
this …do we ? :grinning:

it required political will in the west too to mandate it, about 15 or 20 years ago when we had the opportunity to control the beast that is proprietary software and DRM* used to protect it, but sadly they politicos (from all sides) sided with the big business interests to instead mandate DRM and make it illegal to tinker with ones own hardware and circumvent encryption designed to keep people out of their own devices (and also use of DRM in DVDs and on and on).

  • Note - this is a bit OTT soap box, and I’m not sure that open access to all digital property would have worked very well either. as ever a sensible compromise would have been nice, and I believe that now the law is starting to recognise the right to modify one’s own devices and hence software.
Also note I am most certainly not advocating the theft of software or music, I have in the past been hungry awaiting a royalty cheque
