You will certainly get a signal but copyright limitations are imposed on the output per international licensing agreements and you are likely to max at 24/48 or 16/48,
aw ok. i thought anything over 96/24 opitcal downsamples.
Well, optical can by its construction limit resolution but this restriction is by law not physical aspects.
Actually toslink optical does physically limit the bandwith because it is not a high quality connection like St-glass. Most toslink cables use a plastic transmission as opposed to actual glass in St- glass. Also the optical transmitters and receivers are lower quality and limit bandwidth. The connectors on toslik are also sources of loss. It really is not by law unless you consider the law of physics.
One thing I like about DVD A is how easy it was to RIP.
I never disputed either of these things, but the reason that he may not get the full resolution out of the Oppo is because of agreed upon industry standards that limit the resolution output due to copyright protection concerns. Though some DVD-A made solely for musical reasons may allow full output, many DVD and Blu-ray Audio wonāt due to contractual agreement.
lonsonā¦agreed while there may better sounding dacs. But the Oppo players offer something very few have and that is itās very own app to control Oppo players settings and music selection. All
my music is gradually migrating to a high speed usb 3 flash driveā¦plug the drive into my 205 ā¦voila no need for roon or other computer fed music dependent sourcesā¦
While I realize there are large music resources thereā¦I just canāt see buying such software and paying again to play my own music library through those convoluted systemsā¦
So Paulā¦if you could would you please develop an Oppo like app to make it so far simpler for the user to store access and play their already purchased libraryā¦an app you load on to your mobile device that communicates directly with a playerā¦no computer network needed just a wifi connection to enable app to player communicationā¦a la Oppoā¦
thanks everyone
The Oppo Media Control app already works with the Oppo BDT-101 in your DMP. If you open the case, youā'll see that the Oppo board has USB, HDMI, and Ethernet ports that allow full access to everything you want to do. You just have to plug it in.
Thanks peanut_butter but Oppo BDT -101 app not compatible with Oppo 205 ā¦
Use this.
It works. Really.
thanks but that is a 10x media controler for Oppo 105 need 20x for Oppo 205ā¦10x wont recognize
the 205
There is a BDT-101 in the DMP, not a 205. Or are we no longer discussing the DMP? I thought you were looking for a solution to your problem. My apologies if I misunderstood. Ignore and carry on.
Yes the copy protection and licensing is very real.
No appologies needed peanut_butter its all goodā¦quuestion though s there a bdp 205 in the dmp?
the one for bdt 101 not compatible with bdp 205 afaikā¦
Itās all good friend no worries
As for me Iām completely disc oriented, donāt stream or use files on a NAS or computer etc. Old school only here!
Ahā¦the simplicity of the good ole days ā¦not that long ago
Now perhaps our good friend Paul might have some very simplified non computer streaming contraption akin to what Oppo
designed for the udps with a downloadable app for tablets or other mobile to interface with a dmp
or similar device that can display your usb or similar drive musicā¦select display and play itā¦
simplicity simplified!!
What could be easier !!
Has there ever been a good explanation why the operational codes for the Oppo transport used in the DMP can not be obtained? Surely those codes havenāt vanished from the face of the Earth. I donāt understand why someone from that company wouldnāt be willing to release them. Yes they stopped making transports, but the company and many of the same people who worked there are still around.
I think we have the same goal.
I am happy with DMP, but believe in the information that it also plays Blu-ray Audio discs, I bought several such discs. Some of them are not played by DMP, others are played with problems.
PS Audio tried to get access to source code so they could modify the things they needed to change to improve the DMPās performance but were not able to obtain it. One issue with getting access is all the licensing associated with the code. Also, even if PS Audio hired ex Oppo employees they would be unable to help as PS Audio they cannot legally see, or modify Oppoās code. Oppo still owns the technology, whether they make transports and DVD players or not.
Elk ā¦many thanks for clarifying the underlying problem helps me understand the challenges
with this issueā¦
