The Grimm MU2

None here, although I’ve only run a second zone… no heavy lifting.

Would playlists not come over when restoring a backup?

Okay, MU2 owners:

Do any of you have issues with the unit when coming out of Standby?

Most of the time, everything is fine, but occasionally the screen won’t display properly, with no information and only one square showing. When this happens, Grimm will play music fine, but the display is stuffed.

Going back into Standby and coming back out usually fixes that issue. Other times (far less frequently) it requires a full restart.

And then, every once in a great while, Grimm sends itself into a restart for no apparent reason.

Just wondering if this manifests in other MU2s.

Backup your Nucleus to an external hard drive, plug that external hard drive into the MU2 and restore from it. If your music files are on a NAS it’s easy. If not you have a little work to do but no big deal.
How do I know this works? I have done in many times.

Roger that. Thank you. I will try. All files are located on the hard disk embedded in the Nucleus. I’ll transfer the files, it’s not a problem. I really want to save playlists that contain music from both my hard drive and Tidal and Qobus.

Have you tried contacting customer support? Their reaction is interesting.

Not yet. I first wanted to know if anyone else experienced the issue.

I have had an issue where the MU2 will not read the digits from a toslink cable. Had to unplug the MU2 power cord and plug it back in. Happened 2 times

That is a good thing. You can copy (instead of move (for safety’s sake) the files before or after the move. The Roon backup process doesn’t back up the music itself. Then, backup the Nucleus to a thumb drive or external drive. Connect it to the MU2 and choose to restore from that drive.

You may have to set the library location on the MU2. No big deal. After it gets done doing all it’s things Roon should appear as it did on your Nucleus, all playlists intact.

I went through a period with my MU2 where the display many times only showed two white squares. Sometimes restarting cleared it, sometimes not. Grimm support knew exactly what the issue was. An internal cable bundle was routed too close to the power board. They sent me a PDF file (which I still have) that showed how to open the MU2 myself, re-route the cable, and close the box back up. I did these things and the problem went away.

Thanks, Al.

With that information, I believe it’s time to contact Grimm.

It would make sense to do so. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send you the PDF just for your personal enlightenment.

I had an issue at beginning with my MU2 because they forgot to install 8TB SSD, it took some effort back and forth to have it up and running. It has been running flawlessly so far. Occasionally the screen would freeze but it was due to Roon App. I believe.

I think you just got sent the wrong MU2 rather than Grimm forgetting to put it in. The shipping box will have the clue to decide which was which.

From what I hear, it’s not just my Cambridge edge NQ that freezes every now and then. I’m glad and next time I’ll remember that it’s not just me who has these problems. When the freezing happened, I was annoyed at that moment and thought about buying something else. Maybe Grimm MU2. Only if something like that happened would I be even more annoyed. Greetings Andreas

I can’t suggest that my problem with the Grimm was the screen “freezing”.

Besides, even when the screen didn’t behave properly, I could still play music just fine. Thank goodness.

Absolutely any company, even the most advanced and technologically advanced, is forced to periodically update the firmware to fix bugs. How is this work delivered to Grimm audio? Usually, the firmware can be automatically updated via the Internet or downloaded from the manufacturer’s website.

It is handled via the Internet quite well. When updates are available the user is made aware and the updates are downloaded and applied with a button press or two.

Hello everyone. Dear owners of MU2, please share whether the sound quality changed significantly during the heating of the device, if so, for how long did this happen before the sound stabilized?

When I first acquired MU2, it ran hot for over a month. Now it only runs warm. This is a good indication that the MU2 has finished break-in. When I did a transformer MOD for DS MK2, it went through a 2-month break in too. The bottom of it ran hot but eventually turned warm after 2 months. The SQ also stabilized around the same time.

MU2, after break-in period, will take at least 15 to 20 minutes to sound good. This is not unique to MU2. DS MK2 and PST take even longer time to reach its optimal temperature.
