The MU2 is a Swiss Army knife that is tough to beat! Congrats!
Just received the MU2. Anyone else find the power cable connection is a bit loose fitting? I’ve tried multiple cables and any slight bump or touch causes the unit to cycle power.
Thank You, I reached out to the factory to ask this question after posting here. So far, after my own experience with Roon in my system: the interface is very nice, but sonically cut below what I am hearing from Lightning DS the Auralic native app that connects to my NAS. I have been comparing Roon to other options, Audirvāna and Jplay, Roon falls behind in my system compared to. Looking for a replacement option DAC streamer combo from my Auralic Aries G2 and Directstream MKII currently
Do you happen to know if the MU1 has that capability?
I did not find the MU2’s power connection “loose” but it was susceptible to any minor movement and would shut down. I always thought I would blow that 1 amp fast blow fuse but never did. I just got used to it being a common occurrence.
Sorry, I don’t.
I’ve used them for a few years. They affect the sound, too much to my taste. If needed I recommend to use them without the upper part, using just the bottom part to keep well suspended the power cord’s plug.
No question that these PC supports would affect the sound, and the clamp type is not the best. As the gear and PC get better, the clamp type of support may cause more damage than helping it.
Here is what I use for supporting PC at MU2. The column only supports a small portion of the plug, and I found this way it helps the SQ more instead of damping it too much.
There is a delicate balance between a fixed cord supporter and compression type footers, like Stack, that hold up the unit. You have to get the cord holder at the right height so that there is no strain on the cord as the unit moves down slightly on its own weight.
Try lifts made of wood, DIY even.
I used to use wine corks, and I still have hundreds of them. No, I did not hear improvement using them, but I did not hear worse SQ either. Is @scotte1 still using them, or at one time used them?
Wine corks everywhere!
But some are stacked upon miscellaneous footers as necessary…
No sound quality impacts that I discerned, but the connections stay secure and I suppose the lack of drooping/tension helps…
Exactly what I do, Chad. I cut 2’x 4’s to exact length. Stable, simple, repeatable, cheap.
The MU2 is fantastic, but mine sounded terribly closed-in out of the box at room temperature.
I’m over-the-moon with it everyday now. It’s a very special and end-game piece for me now (at 70)…
I had the same problem from the PC shifting enough to cause the MU2 to power cycle every time I mess around behind the rack adjusting anything. This shows how I stabilized the PC using an Audience cable lifter with a shim. It definitely improved the stability of the connection, but I did not hear any change in SQ. So glad that I posted the picture of the NCF booster, because I was considering purchasing one to further stabilize the PC. Your feedback on your experience with those as being problematic is gratefully received. For once, it is time to leave well enough alone.
One would think for the price Grimm would have addressed this issue rather than leave it up to end users to solve the problem.
Well at least it doesn’t blow the mains fuse every time something wiggles.
Ya think ![]()
