Tidal Connect with Airlens - Anyone Having Problems?

Tidal Connect on my iPad is frequently locking up when streaming wirelessly to my Airlens. One example is when I’m playing a song, if I move the “slider” on the Play/Pause/Next & Previous tracks screen, the music in the playing track won’t always move forward or backwards. Sometimes Pause & Play won’t work either, when trying to pause a track while playing. If I select another track and immediately go back to the previous track I was having problems with, the “slider” and the Play/Pause/Next & Previous track functions will work normally for a while. This happens randomly. Roon using Tidal works flawlessly. One of the reasons I bought the Airlens was that it’s supposed to work with Tidal Connect and I could stop paying for Roon.

Is anyone else having issues?

I suspect these are tidal connect issues, as I’ve had similar problems with tidal on a Bluesound node. Closing the tidal app and relaunching it would help at times.

About six weeks back, I experienced some issues with TIDAL Connect but it turned out TIDAL was having some issues as the problem disappeared in 24 hours.

TIDAL Connect was buggy when it launched but it’s been really solid for years now, in my experience.

I just installed the Airlens yesterday and everything was going fine streaming from Tidal Connect using my iPad until just about a half hour ago when my iPad was no longer able to control play or advancing to next track. I tried closing Tidal and reopening, but that hasn’t helped and now cannot play Tidal at all.

I just turned off the Airlens and reconnected to my WiFi and it is back up and running, so looks like it was an internet connection issue, not a Tidal issue. It is not convenient for me to use ethernet connection, so have to rely on WiFi. Hope this doesn’t become a frequent problem using the Airlens.

Welcome!

I’m not convinced it’s an internet problem with for a number of reasons..

  1. roon runs flawlessly all of the time.

  2. in order to stream through my house, I have Wiim mini endpoints connected to 4 systems. Tidal & Roon work without a hitch with those units. I use Tidal on android & ipads for that.

I only have issues with Tidal & the Airlens. I

Thanks, Elk!

So…..I have lots of experience with this one. I have done EXTENSIVE testing on the issue. Tidal connect is ok… When it comes to streaming platforms it works but definitely has the most quirks. There will be dropouts, pauses, volume changes, etc. This is on all streamers. I have tested it on the airlens, Wiim ultra, Wiim mini, bluesound node, Innous, Heos music, apple TV (apple TV in particular hates tidal for some reason), and others. These issues seem to follow Tidal connect wherever it’s played.
If you use Roon with tidal, all the issues disappear. I always tell the team for streaming with Tidal, Tidal connect works, but your best experience is with Roon.

A troubleshooting step you can do is force close tidal connect on whatever device you have. You can also disconnect and reconnect to your wifi network, this will sometimes help the latency issues. Also with the airlens, unplug everything from it (and I mean EVERYTHING), let it sit for about 10-15 min. plug it back in. That fixes a majority of the issues we have seen.

We also saw an uptick in issues after one of the last updates. I popped it on a Blusound node today and it seemed to be working better, but I’ve not had time to extensively test again.

I use Qobuz Connect, which was exhibiting various glitches and inconsistencies. One day it dawned on me that I had never tried turning off my VPN while streaming. Doing so immediately solved the problems I was having. So I would suggest that anyone who is experiencing streaming issues, regardless of which platform you use, should experiment with turning off any VPN that is running.

I whish it were that simple for me, as i don’t use a VPN.
