Torreys Beta Testers who had functional issues -- Please Read

To all Torreys beta testers who had functional issues with the Beta test code can you please email dennis@psaudio.com We are working to fix the issues you reported and should have new code to test in a day or two. I would like to get a list of people that had issues so we can get them to test our latest code to make sure all of the issues you reported have been addressed. I would like people to email me and let me know what issues you encountered, and when ready I will email you a link to our latest code. This is not an Audio Quality Test for Torreys, that will come later, as we will still need to do our Audio selection for a final version. This is only to make sure that we have addressed all of the functional issues.

The beta test is started and sent to all users who replied!

Dennis,

I had a little bit of time this AM to give it a spin.

All playback was via I2S.

The load time seems normal to me compared to other firmware updates.

The mute was not on after the firmware load.

Played 44.1 and 128 DSD via the I2S input.

The channel reversal appears to be gone from the I2S input.

But this had a 50/50 incidence rate and I will report back later this evening after running repeated tracks.

Switching from 128 DSD to 44.1 play does produce a very loud pop.

This is after stopping play of the 128 DSD file and switching to play a 44.1 file. ( maybe my renderer? )

I will investigate further this evening.

What Renderer are you using?

Dennis

Dennis,

The Sonore Signature Series Rendu.

I will reload Yale when I get home and confirm if it occurs with Yale, I just don’t recall.

Thank you very much. Let me know if it happens on Yale too.

Dennis

Dennis I have loaded TFB1 (torreys functional beta1) into DS and can confirm that all issues I had with original torreys beta are gone:

  • no more silence issue with changing sample rates / DoP via bridge2 (tried 24@192, 24@176, 16@44.1 and single rate DoP in this order)

  • mute not enabled after DS restart

I have tested only bridge input so far. I will play a bit more tonight and report further details .

Tomas

It’s cured the issues I had identified:

  • Mute is Off after at startup

  • plays from BubbleUP/Bridge after power-up and blue-button wakeup - without the soundless playing issue

  • lower-res formats still play after successfully playing 24/176K wav from PSAudio demo disk, but BubbleUP doesn’t seem to recognize .dsf files, so I can’t test that

  • seems to connect to BubbleUP more readily - I haven’t seen it fail to be visible to BubbleUP, or connect and play so far

EldRick,

In BubbleUPnP settings, have you enabled the “force” setting.

It forces BubbleUPnP to recognize formats.

BubbleUPnP settings > UPnP Tweaks > uncheck " Mime-type check "

Loaded and tested a bit this morning. All technical issues seem to have been resolved. Tested on bridge input, coax and across bubble with no issues at all. Mute on startup was gone as others have mentioned.

I was carefully listening to couple 44.1 tracks (jazzrock, classical and elecronic) and found that TFB1 sounds here now better than Yale (improvements in areas as described in the other beta thread).

Before, in my system the original beta sounded “strange”, possibly the bugs had impact also on SQ on affected systems?

I can now confirm that the channel reversal while playing back via I2S is resolved.

I selected play on 50 different files and all of them played back correctly.

The pop when transitioning from DSD to 44.1 files is present with both Torreys Beta and Yale.

This is more than likely an issue with my renderer that I will look into.

Nope - still doesn’t find .dsf files on a DLNA server.

I loaded TorreyFunctionalBeta1 onto my DS.

So far I have been unable to reproduce the Silence after DoP bug after several hours of playing DoP over Coax via my Oppo 103/Vanity HD. And I’ve really been trying my best to confuse my DS by stopping and starting my player to make it lose its DoP lock, as well as switching between inputs with DoP playing on coax, and 16/44 PCM on Toslink. I’ve also tried switching back and forth between playing 24/192 PCM and DoP. So far it has behaved flawlessly despite my attempts to torture test it.

Although I wonder if somebody at PS Audio might be trying to torture us by asking us to listen to an inferior version of “torreys” (if it even is a version of torreys) which doesn’t seems to sound as good as did the first Beta. LOL.

Dennis, all issues are now addressed and working faultlessly - no matter how hard I try to confuse my Oppo 103 Vanity / HD; also the PWT / I2S working glitch free but, - I too, like TarnishedEars now unhappy with the musical deterioration…

Guys, guys.107_gif

Thanks for checking on this and maybe Dennis didn’t let you know so clearly what the gig was. Forget the sound quality. No one’s trying to torture you.

Once we know the issues have been resolved we’ll set about to voicing the firmware and get the sound back.

Now you can understand what it is we go through to get the sound right. It’s a torturous process that takes a lot of time and effort, but has to be done each time we make a change. We didn’t want to have to go through it again without knowing the fixes worked.

We truly appreciate your hard work and pain in having to listen to it.

Give us a few days and the sound will be back.

I clearly stated " This is not an Audio Quality Test for Torreys, that will come later, as we will still need to do our Audio selection for a final version. This is only to make sure that we have addressed all of the functional issues."

Several people did not read this.

Dennis

Paul, you truly have to suffer for your art for it to mean anything…clapping_giflaugh

Oh yes - Dennis, I did read it… but it doesn’t stop me letting you know my feelings laugh

Thanks you, we need all the help we can get.
