We also love motorcycles

Sure but different use compared to the 675. One with some skill and experience could ride it at 80% all day and have a freakin’ ball. It was/is the ultimate upright backroad canyon flickable machine. Too much reciprocating mass is less fun.

Where you fan of Freddie Spencer, Wes Cooley, or neither?

Freddie, yes and also Miguel DuHamel. I used to go to the races at Loudon in NH. Really great weekend usually on Father’s Day (how perfect).

I’ve never been on a motorbike in my life, but I know someone who has.

I need to dig it up. I have a picture of my mother, while pregnant with me, on the back of my father’s '41 Harley. I literally was riding motorcycles before I was born. I haven’t owned one since I sold my '81 Honda CB900F in 1983.

You may have noticed I owned an '82 Honda 900F. Loved that machine especially for the loads of low end torque. A very versatile road machine.

More moto-jewelry for the RT. Wunderlich makes some beautifully machined parts.

I haven’t ridden a bike in years. But you couldn’t get me off one in my mid-teens to early 20s. Alas I don’t have anything but a stock photo to share, but far and away the coolest and most unique ride I ever owned was a Hodaka. Yep, an Ace 100. There has never been anything else remotely like it. Can’t tell you how much fun I had banging around on that thing and turning heads out of sheer curiosity over what the heck it was.

Some of you guys have had a lot of bikes! My list is much more humble. Iromocally, I intended to buy a BMW F 800 ST for my first bike and a BMW K 1300 S for my second bike. JL did say, life is what happens when you are making other plans. 5th time was the charm for the Bimmer.

2007 Triumph Sprint ST (purchased in 2011)
2012 Ducati Mulristrada 1200S
2015 Ducati Multisttada 1200S
2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200S (their pleasure)
2020 BMW R 1250 RS

Those VFRs sure are special. My 750 had the best exhaust note especially with a Two Brothers pipe! Not too loud, but oh so sweet with those gear driven cams.

1964 Triumph Tigress scooter 250cc
1966 Ariel Red Hunter 350cc
1966 BSA Bantam 175cc
1970 Ariel Leader 250cc
1972 Ambassador(?) 250cc ex Wall of Death

My '93 & '94 had the gear driven cams. I never changed out the pipe but my wife always said she could tell when I turned on to our street when I was coming in because the sound was so distinct. The 2007 and 2014 had VTEC engines. I never saw the point to the additional complexity. I expect emissions had something to do with it. It about broke my heart to sell the last one to buy the BMW because it meant I was getting too old for the ridding position. The BMW is a great bike and I don’t regret it but you aren’t going to throw it around like you can a VFR or interceptor.

Awesome collection Chris! It’s great that you’re still riding. I know so many who have quit for a number of reasons/wives/etc. Not me, not ever. I came close to hanging up my helmet in August 2013 when I hit a deer on my way to work. I was very lucky. Only a couple of broken ribs and some abrasions. Bike was a total loss. ATGATT (all the gear all the time) is my motto and I just bought a mesh jacket to enjoy the hotter than usual weather in relative safety.

The sound of gear driven cams is distinctive.

Another motorcycle sound one will always recognize, and from far away, is a Ducati dry clutch.

Sadly, I don’t have any pictures of my first bike. This is as close as I could find off the net.
What a great bike through college.
