Edward Elgar (1857-1934): Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85
Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 84
New CD release by Satori (previously known as Josephine Davies’ Satori). Satori is a jazz trio fronted by Josephine Davies on sax. Spiritual jazz with a slight Coltrane vibe, but never too “out there”. Well recorded, too.
I grabbed this show last night on bt.etree.org via BitTorrent, specifically at this link. I will seed it for a while in case any BT users want a copy. It is an above-average audience recording, but it is not audiophile quality. The performance, though, kicks @ss (worth the download just for “(Everybody Wanna Get Rich) Rite Away”)!

New release of live solo acoustic performances from 1976 . . . revelatory!
Never mind Mozart, the Schubert on this disc is miraculous.
Back to the Mozart, recorded at the same venue, think they told there audience to cough as much as possible, but a very lyrical and deeply felt performance.
Salvatore Sciarrino: Giorno velato presso il lago nero, for violin and orchestra
Carolin Widmann, violin
Symphonie-Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks/Jonathan Nott
Such a great set. I just picked up a Mosaic Lionel Hampton set too. Haven’t ripped it yet.
Things always look sunnier on Saturday morning…although it’s not very sunny here in Chicagoland. Snowing pretty hard. Don’t think it’ll amount to much. We’ve dodged winter so far. Guess we have it coming.
B ill Frisell East West is an all time favorite. A good level and it will clear the cobwebs out of your system!
L. van Beethoven: Cello Sonata No. 3 in A major, Op. 69
Matt Haimovitz, cello
Christopher O’Reily, fortepiano
Cassandra Wilson “Thunderbird” Blue Note. This one had to grow on me, but it did. Very interesting instrumentation and arranging.
Just picked this up at a local record store we just discovered today downtown. And only two bucks to boot! The vinyl looks and sounds absolutely mint!
That is a really, really good album
Yes it is!
And here’s another good one, for only six bucks! Also looks and sounds perfect!
Nice! I’ve been shopping at a nearby used music store the last couple weekends and have found some long lost favorites and took a chance on a few bargains too.
Yeah, she had a rather straight playing pop combo behind her this time … but finally the music is still great most of the time…what bothered me the most was the awfully dull sound of the at this time new producer T Bone Burnett.
