What Are You Spinning Right Now? (Mk. 2)

Again interesting how I hear different things. Doesn’t sound “dull” to me.

Right now
My system is making this seem as if it is happening in my living-room tonight. Lucy is surfing on the computer in another room and she’s not objecting to my having this just a bit louder than I usually do to sneak some music in. . . so that means it is weaving a similar spell for her.

A very “real” recording and excellent music. I love Jacques and Paula together!

Yes it really is interesting…at least when comparing it to her JMT or e.g. Blue light till dawn or New moon daughter which sound very different when playing all of them with the same settings…in case playing something like Brubeck’s time out afterwards this must give a treble\breath of life shock with dramatic lack of bass in comparison

I didn’t play anything after it that set it apart either in dull or brilliant territory, perhaps that’s the difference.

Personally I’m very sensitive to treble hash and glare and I have my system tuned to minimize that when it might occur and to one less sensitive it may appear that my whole system is “dull” (although only one person I know has made a comment like that to me and when he adjusted it to his ‘taste’ it was clear he really didn’t hear high frequencies very well!) Anyway, I agree that the production is different, and that did hold me back from appreciating the album at first, but I love it now.

Another mint one, at $10…

I just googled a bit and indeed there’s quite some discussion regarding sound to be found and in one review it was obvious Burnett did a lot of digital editing, mixing tap sounds with drum machine parts etc. So no wonder the sound needs good will to accept whe used to acoustic stuff.

That’s part of the beauty of Wilson’s work for me. She doesn’t rest on her laurels, she doesn’t follow the “rules” of a genre, and I’m glad that Blue Note let her travel her journey with sound and instrumentation and arrangement and straddle pop and jazz worlds both with material and production. I so want a new album from her. I had a thought the other day that I’d love to have her record with Lafayette Gilchrist. That would likely be a fruitful collaboration.

Prince “Piano & A Microphone 1983” . . . . And really that’s all he needed.

A very nice release, surprised me that we got this when we did.

Yes, I’m impatiently waiting, too!

Great powerful modern jazz…

Again the wonderfully relaxed sound with beautiful string sound from one of the Esoteric SACD’s…always the best example of remastered analog classical on digital media and an exception rather than the rule…

Any musical act have a weirder sense of album covers? No wonder they never found great success…oh, but the talent. The harmonies are the highlight, of course, but Ira could play the mandolin.

Saw the Arkestra and Ra, free-in-the-park jams, back in the day, in Philly. Mind bending stuff.

A $16 bargain, and this one is noted as being VG+. This thing looks brand new inside and out, and it’s 34+ years old! Sounds excellent as well.
