New on Qobuz. 16/44.1. He was a Romantic era composer and thus a bit modern for me, but I enjoy a string quartet. Quite enjoyable, with a well-defined soundstage.
Blue Mitchell “The Thing to Do” most recent Japanese Blue Note cd reissue.
Qobuz. 24/88.2. An album intended to show the influence of Lully. Pleasant enough listening. It is supposed to incorporate historically accurate bowing and ornamentation; critical appreciation of which is beyond my pay grade.
Worth listening just for the transcription of La Primavera, but otherwise a fine collection and a lovely sound.

In heavy rotation…
A real “clean”, very musical recording coming through via Roon and my DS Sr. via Bridge II. Alas, everything (in terms of sound quality) that the new Springsteen album isn’t. Arguably apples and oranges in terms of genre; but I just wish Springsteen’s producers/engineers could capture some musicianship and musicality on a quality (not generally “muddy” sounding) recording, just once. Or maybe I just don’t care for “the Boss”?
Anyway, give this gem from 2003 a spin if you have never heard it before or listened to it for a while. I am really enjoying this record.
Gonna have to add the disc to my collection and rip it to my digital library…
Cheers.

Lizzo: This whole album make me smile. can be very crude and very soulful! Like a girl resonates with me raising two strong young women.
I have done my duty by you, @stevensegal, and am duly listening to this album. The interpretations and execution are good, and the tone of the flute is excellent. I have two small problems. The first is that I find flute best in small doses. The second is that a lifetime of hold music has made me allergic to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Interestingly, the transcription of La Primavera for flute renders it less irritating!
I try to avoid the “test signal” reaction, but the recording was so nicely done it was an easy listen. I have the Aurele Nicolet recording of the JS Bach BWV 1013 sonata, on Archiv, plus a trio sonata for two flutes. I shall have to give it a spin. I rather liked the CPE Bach A Minor sonata on this set.
I agree on La Primavera but this one was nice. If you want some challenging transcriptions, try these:
This is a great compilation. And I don’t like compilations.
