…Trash City…a great groovy lead guitar. Funny, the loud cockney accent has put me off in the past but this is just a great rock n roll song. Would be fun loud, live with about 30 drunks in a small bar. Ranger’s Command…the damn commie. Joe’s story is funny. Corina, Corina…most serious music people find something, somewhere in Dylan. I’m no different. Johnny Appleseed…wrote about this last night. A great example of a song that would have sounded better with a high DR. I like it even more in the context of this CD. To Love Somebody…Nina Simone’s music forces me to think out side my own life’s experience. Wilesden To Cricklewood… lovely sentiment and groove to end the CD.
This was a CD put together by a music lover with diverse tastes . I love stuff like this…a perspective. I enjoyed it about 10 times more than I thought I would. I will visit many, many of these songs again!
Jason, listened to that Pistols album on Wednesday. Submission is still my favorite tune.
Big Clash fan too! Do you have the Clash on Broadway box set? Highly recommended. After seeing the History of the Clash movie, not a huge Joe Strummer fan.
I am glad to see you appreciate The Future is Unwritten. Again, it’s a favorite of mine. It’s all over the place but coherent at the same time.
As family tradition, we just watched The Ref and still have Christmas Vacation to go, but am squeezing in some albums here and there. At the end of the night, we will watch The Dancing Outlaw, a documentary starring Jesco White. Jesco is a paint-huffing, tap dancing outlaw. Notably, Jesco is from the same side of the mountain as Hasil Adkins (the granddaddy of psycobilly), which as my wife’s grandmother has pointed out is the opposite side of the mountain where than they are from…
I do not agree with Joe Strummer’s leftist politics, why he broke up the the Clash, etc., but I love Joe. He had a big heart and most importantly made great music; both are more than enough for me. My brother gave me the box set a few years back. As for genres of music “The Clash and everything related” is my biggest single grouping of albums. As a kid, Combat Rock was one of my first albumd but i have expanded from there.
As for Sex Pistols, I typically don’t pull that out anymore unless I am trying to get a rise out of my wife. The scene plays out: “Turn that down!” Me with way too much beer in me: “Okay .” Then Motörhead, Metallica, Dead Kennedy’s or Sex Pistols go on.
The family is now listening to Amsco15’s best Christmas album suggestion of 2017!
All this talk of the Clash and its members made me dig out the first two releases from Big Audio Dynamite and put them in the car for the trip to my Dad’s and back today. I’m not really a Clash fan, but I loved Big Audio Dynamite and saw them twice. When they came out I had a Simmons drum kit and a Roland drum machine, they were right up my alley!
If anything makes me pissed at Joe Strummer, it’s B.A.D. Not that B.A.D. was not solid without him but it’s the “What if…”. With that said, B.A.D. was pretty much my high school and college go to band.
Getting in the mood to go to my sisters for the big family Christmas Eve celebration. This CD always works. It’s never sounded better. The downer is I’m going without my wife who is on death’s door with the flu! So much for this year’s flu shot. The good news, I’m bringing 15 year old Whistle Pig Rye to make killer Manhattan’s.
Merry Christmas all! I really enjoy the sharing of music in this thread!
. . . my wife who is on death’s door with the flu! So much for this year’s flu shot.
Influenza is dreadful.
Unfortunately, the flu shot is merely the best guess of what strains may be out there in the coming year. Some times they get it dead on; others, a lot is missed.
Picked this up yesterday on eBay. It was just a matter of time. My Christmas bonus feeding my addiction. Payed a little more than I planned but where else am I gonna find this? Funny, the seller was paranoid I would buy, rip and return. Not how I operate, nor any other music lover I know.
Awesome! I love that set, have had it since about a year after its release. I bet that sellers DO get people who rip and return. . . shame shame shame!
