Maybe the last disc I get to spin through the speakers this year. I undervalue this and should play it more often. Lovely album, as befits the title. This woman really impresses me, over and over.

Any ideas as to what is going on with Ms. Wilson currently? Her last album came out in April 2015 and there are no upcoming performances listed on her website (it appears that her last public performance was in September 2018 in South Africa).
(I am a fan of her albums (at least the few I have heard), but the one time I saw her live was disappointing. I and several people I know who attended the same show were of the opinion that she âfaxed inâ her performance, and that she appeared to be high on something other than life.)

I donât have any specific info. She often goes two to three years or so between albums, so itâs not all that unusual we havenât had a new one quite yet, it is getting about the time we could expect one though. The last new thing I saw from her was the amazing Austin City Limits performance filmed supporting her last album.
I wouldnât blame her if sheâs slowing down. Sheâs a few months younger than I am and I sure have. . . .
Edit to add: she is appearing later next month at the Nappa Opera House in Nappa, CA. according to Facebook.

Harold Mabern trio live at Smalls in 2012 and released on CD in 2012 as well. He was 76 at this performance and in tip top shape. His jazz interpretation of the Sesame Street theme song is worth the price of admission and just over 8 minutes of pure joy.


My stereo is re-configured. I have one spot left for the BHK 300 (spring I hope). Brought my speakers in 6â each. Sound stage is still nice and big. Will take more listening. Iâm settled in for a nice listening session tonight.

This is a really well recorded album. Whats not music or voice is comple silence.
Great record but always thought Muddy had too my echo on his voice. Just my opinion.

Best record of 2018?
My speakers are now 8â apart and Iâm about 9â from the speaker face, if I slouch. This record sounds much better like this. This is a nice sounding recording either way. But at this distance, itâs much more intimate and yet retains the nice big 3D soundstage my speakers do so well.
Iâm sure it was probably the less than stellar recording equipment the Jazz musicians had to use then.
I donât think so. Lots of echo was a choice they made. Lots of great sounding recordings from that era without too much echo. Just a quirk decision. No one thought then that would be a revered record someday. Unlike many musicians today, Muddy cranked out the records.
Also, I donât think many playback systems of the time would be resolving enough to reveal all that echo, and possibly not the mastering monitoring Chess used. Itâs amazing what we can hear NOW that wasnât readily heard then. Such as âBarnacle Bill the shitheadâ instead of âsailorâ in a famous supergroup jazz recording of the 'twenties.
