I pulled this 1980 CBS Masterworks LP out for the first time in probably 25 years, and found it has pretty decent sound and quiet surfaces. Certainly better than I expected. Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals.” The liner notes say the cello is played by “the extraordinary young cellist” Yo-Yo Ma.
This is listed on Qobuz, queues but won’t play.
What better to warm the cockles on a frigid Sunday in February? Format? - digital, probably not enough bits for @Rushton, but definitely in the correct order.
Ondine - apparently a label created to produce an annual recording of an obscure Finnish music festival, 500 albums later, …
As far as bits go, he‘s frugal, one is enough
Jared has been recording albums with violinist Ning Feng for years and years, but I’d not seen a new one recently until this week. Just lovely.
Love this album, have it too. It’sa real shame that Vogt died recently. He was a wonderful soloist and accompanist.
I have to say that I never warned up to Feng for whatever reason
Feng has a very soft, warm, lyrical style. Certainly understandable some will not go for him. Jared adores his playing. I find him quite enjoyable, but perhaps not at the top of my preferences.

A great one!
Liner notes regarding Gabriel Prokofiev’s 2nd String Quartet: Gabriel, “I think that the 2nd follows on from where the 1st quartet left off, and takes this approach to the next stage. My 2nd quartet has even more drive than my first, and is often more rhythmic and edgy, but also has plenty of melody.” When Gabriel explained about his first string quartet in the previous Ruysdael release there was one thing he was very decisive about: he specifically did not listen to his grandfather’s string quartets in order not to become intimidated or over-influenced. Also in the Second quartet any resemblance with Sergei seems light-years away; the musical genome of the work is once again genetically independent.
It’s nice to be able to have and enjoy strong options.
Brendel has his way when playing Schubert.
