What Classical are you spinning?

“God listens to Bach while the angels listen to Mozart.”

Karl Barth

Although I have dozens of recordings of Bach’s music, if God could somehow arrange for me to acquire this set for around the same incredible price He did the Mozart, God and I can listen to all of it together.

Hallelujah and Amen to that…:slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:

I picked up a copy of the AP SACD myself after reading your post, and I agree. It’s better (though I’d say subtly so on my system) than the Sony BMG SACD. It’s interesting though that the printed material suggests the disc also contains a Hindemith concerto, as does the printing on the disc surface itself, when it doesn’t actually contain it. At least my copy doesn’t.

Interesting, I hadn’t noticed that. The original LP of course, doesn’t list it, nor does the Sony/BMG SACD.

Happy you liked it.

Just the Brahms, it’s a wonderful piece of music and the performance is good. SQ on the other hand is just OK, at least on my system. Hard to separate instruments in the Soundstage. Might go with a different recording next time. Gewandhaus Orchestra under Chailly was recommended but I couldn’t find it.

Odd to reply to myself but I found the Chailly recording so will hit that up next

If any of the more knowledgeable folks can check me out on this I’d be interested in their responses. I like this music but this seems like the violins are mixed 3db or more louder than the cello to the point it seems the balance is off. It’s a good recording otherwise of great music but I turned it off after 15 minutes because it just seemed wrong to me.

Pretty good recording of one of the great symphonies.

Moved on to this as I have time to sit in the chair and listen more seriously today.

Two very good sounding recordings with energetic play!

Bruckner Symphony #6, Solti and the Chicago Symphony. Just ripped it. Drove me crazy - the LP I have is labelled London ffrr CS 7173. Could not find it in Discogs at all. Finally found it as Decca CS 7173 but not in DIscogs. Nice recording and performance, recorded at the Medinah Temple in Chicago in 1979.

Another one from the H’s. This time just playing the 6th. The Concerto Grossi are for small orchestras, this one is a 26 piece that assembled a few times a year for this sort of thing. Pleasant stuff.

London CS 7173 is certainly in discogs:

You are absolutely right. NO idea how I missed it. Funi, i useta no how ta spel.

Just William Tell to get me motivated to drive into Manhattan for treatment. Sucks because with the MSKCC no visitors rule I have to go by myself. At least the car has an ok sound system so I’ll have company in that sense. Screen Shot 2020-04-26 at 8.59.00 AM

Please let us know about your drive and treatment when you get back.

A disc from the old Musical Heritage Society, which had some pretty nice performances and recordings for budget releases and reissues. This was a great track for Sunday morning.
