Terrific interview with Olafsson in The Guardian
Not crazy about the cover. The music & the playing? Yeah, I am crazy about them. Also available on LP for those whose preference leans towards vinyl. Impressive young musician. Keep an eye (and ear) on him.
Thanks for posting that. Icelanders are uncomplicated and clear-thinking people.
Was looking for the 4th by the LSO under Alsop but did not find it on Qobuz. Settled is not the right word but ended up listening to this, a fine version as well.

Stayed with the LSO for this. Nice version as well

I know “young person’s guide…” is sort of a beginner piece but it’s great fun and I like this recording. It makes me imagine what it would have been like to hear one of the greats conduct one of his own symphonies.

That’s Snape Matings in the background, that Britten created as an educational centre as much as for the Aldeburgh Festival.
One of Schubert’s early and one of his late, both great.

I was led to this from a Jim Austin column in a 2018 Stereophile where he was lamenting the vocabulary used to describe classical recordings. He said good new music is out there and cited this. I am struggling to get through it. Lots of staccato and saw blade bowing that is not attractive to me. Nothing resembling a melody had come through. Cannot say I am liking this
Hat tip to @adriaan on another thread for leading me to this. Wonderful recording, feels like I am in the orchestra 6 rows from the stage.
