What Classical are you spinning?

Gil is superb, and charming.

I came upon his playing of Mendelssohn’s and Bruch’s violin concertos. Two of my favorites. Looked around online to buy a copy of this CD. It is out of print I believe. However, there is a complete set of his recordings with DG that I ended up buying (22 cds). Looking forward to them.

Good decision.

His performances of Bach’s solo violin works are sublime.

The last concert of his I attended was of solo Bach, only him on stage, playing from memory while gently strolling on stage. Incredible.

Yes. Agreed. Listening to them presently i.e. Bach’s solo violin works.

Sohail and Elk grabbed my interest. I rarely queue up classical music for more than a 20 minute listen. Gil Shaham’s Bach has been a pleasant 2 hour listen on this Sunday afternoon.

More Gil Shaham. Enjoying the 3 pieces from Schindler’s List.

Had the pleasure to see Gil perform 3 times: Mendelssohn, Brahms & Beethoven Violin Concertos & have many of his recordings. Following his stunning performance of the Mendelssohn to open a 2012 concert at Caramoor Gil joined his family in the row directly in front of us for Mendelssohn’s, Incidental Music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A warm, generous man who happens to be a supreme artist.

You make me envious.

Just the 3rd today

Very different interpretation of the material compared to Starker or Rostropovich. Just listening to the 4th BWV 1010 which I know best to compare. Takes a little getting used to

Is this a reissue or a new recording? I have a set from years back.

Released 23 Sept 2012 by EPR-Classic is what it says on Qobuz

I never heard a harp concerto live…this would have been great…good music and recording!

Channel Classics has a lot of stuff on DSD, looking at the Dvorak and Schubert that these guys did and some other stuff. Reasonably priced if my EUR/USD calculations are correct.

RIP Ennio Morricone

Highly recommended for sound and music!

Did you ever hear a Marimba concert with symphony orchestra? Ok, I’m a marimba fan, but this should be gorgeous for many.
