@magister It’s a faux bargain…. it’s a trick…. car dealers used do this far more often than they do now. Markup the car so they can then mark it down and say you got a discount…. extremely old marketing strategy. Modern day car dealers now focus of straightforward, transparent pricing because they caught a lot of grief over the PS Audio style of discounts.
Your “thank you’s” runneth over.
All audio companies with which I am familiar sell at retail after a significant markup from the cost to make and market the product. 50 to 60 percent is common, and this is without offering trade-ins. They need to do so to survive, as with any company offering a physical product.
PS Audio’s markup is standard, with trade-ins a wonderful perk. No one is being cheated or mislead.
Keep in mind PSA is competing in a highly competitive niche of expensive high performance products. If they were grossly overpriced the market would call them out.
PSA graciously gave you a generous gift, treated you as family, to which Paul and his company aspire - and regularly meet.
I am sorry this left you bitter. ![]()
Pretty much sums it up from where I sit.
Well said !!!
I just got the fr 10s. I will reserve comment as they have been in my house for just a week. As far as the pricing discussion goes, I am looking for value. After inflation and tariffs I personally find 6k after trade in to be a great value. Speakers like these that have proprietary components, a speaker designer that’s easily accessible by email, and excellent customer service is a very hard combination to find these days
I don’t care how they arrive at their pricing
6k for a speaker of this caliber represents an excellent value in today’s crazy audiophile world
I agree with you. And please let us know what you think about them after they get some hours.
Hello. It’s been some time since I posted. I have not ignored your request for my opinion on the FR 10s. I unfortunately have been dealing with a herniated disc with sciatica. Sitting down for any prolonged period of time up until very recently was very uncomfortable. Needless to say, I have not spent an inordinate amount of time listening. My efforts have been towards PT and doing my exercises diligently and trying to stay off my rear end as much as possible. On top of that moving speakers around was not in the cards. Recently with the help of my wife, I put them on some carpet movers, and again with her help I’ve been trying to position them.
I’m hoping to get more dedicated listening time now to give you better feedback.
Preliminary impressions are for a speaker its size, it does a very good job of reproducing the lower octaves
They do seem to be very sensitive to positioning, which has been hard for me to do. I also have an awkwardly shaped room.
Sorry that’s all I have for now but more to follow
Back issues are not fun. I have had severe back pain in the past that lasted a few months with constant pain. I wish you luck on your healing journey.
Thank you sir. It’s been a very frustrating time. A shout out to the very kind folks at PS Audio who were very understanding and extended my trial period.
It’s beyond my comprehension how people complain about their “pricing gimmickry” etc. They are top-notch in customer service, which is unfortunately a trait that’s harder to find these days. They have a customer for life.
agree 100% - PS Audio offers ‘wow’ goodies AND has fantastic service and comittment - they had me at ‘hello’
but after reading this thread, I am wondering the the FR10s might be better for me than the FR20s as I already have 2 REL subs etc….
a pleasurable condundrum to be sure… all thx to PS Audio
Sorry to hear about your back issues😟
Towards the end of October, I placed an order for a pair of FR 10s (to be sure I got the trade-in). These recently arrived and are now set up, but obviously are nowhere near broken in. But even after only a few hours, one of the first things I noticed was how the bass had tightened up and was sounding better than my previous speakers, which I always thought had decent bass. I played a familiar track that features a big bass drum. When the drum came in, I sat up and said, “wow, I never heard it like that before.“
Others have commented about the 10s being finicky about position, and I find this to be true also. More to follow.
Thank you. I think I turned the corner the last few days
Anyway - try “limit to your love “by James Blake but not very loud. The bass goes very low on that track.
How far from the front wall are your speakers ?
I’ve had my F10s for about a year. F20s were just too hulking for my room although they would have fit. I love the relatively svelte profile of the 10s.
Placement was finicky for me. Bass was bloated until dialed in for my room. Zero toe in worked better for me.
I’m in the same situation. My room is odd. It’s 13 feet in the front. On the right front wall, there’s a fireplace that diagonally flares out. It’s 36 feet deep. 8 feet high.
I think with how deep my room is FR 20s lower octaves would be better suited for the room. However, visually they would have such a huge presence in front with a TV and an equipment rack. I only sit about 9 feet from the speakers, they would probably be visually imposing. Also, I’d be concerned about sidewall reflections on the left.
Did you have the FR 20s first and changed the FR 10s?
How far are they from the front wall for you?
No FR20s. FR10s are 4’ into the room.
That’s a work in progress. Right now the left speaker is about 3 feet out and the right speaker 2 1/2 but definitely not the last word.
After some moving around the speakers I have them 50 inches front wall to front baffle 33 inches from left side wall and the right side is hard to measure because of a flared out fireplace. The room is 13 feet wide 8 feet tall with a drop ceiling and 36 feet deep. It’s a multipurpose room with a foosball table and a bar in the back
I listen about 108 inches away.
I’m wondering if the fr 20s would be better in that space. I’m a little concerned if they will overtake the front of the room visually.
Also at 130 lbs each, gettng those down the basement with my back issues is a no go. Trying to time this with my son coming home for thanksgiving
You have a deep room so I am sure FR20 will fit in just fine. PSA FR20 is less than 130 lbs. each, that is more like the weight of FR30.
The specifications on the PSA website give the FR 20 at 133 pounds and the FR 30 at 230 (!).
