Had the PMG 512 DAC go from working fine to a yellow color to the power button and basically appearing to shut down.
Shut the unit off at the switch and powered it on again.
Within 15 minutes did it again.
Felt the unit and it was cool, the only area slightly warm was where the power inlet sits on the right.
This time unplugged the unit completely for 5 minutes and then restarted.
So far been fine for 7 hours.
Saw some other folks experiencing this. wonder if the PS folks can chime in and explain what the yellow color on the power button means - if it is some internal sensor that has detected a bad condition (overheating, moisture detected, bad current etc.) and shut the unit down or if it means the software / hardware encountered an error and shutdown?
Would it be something support should take a look at?
Many thanks

If no one from PSA responds here I would give them a call. I have not had the yellow power button with my unit. I have had to recycle the rear power switch more than once to restart (e.g. after a power outage). It usually does not boot up with a single recycle.
For the PMG amps a flashing red power button indicates fault mode which is explained in the manual. I don’t see anything like this in the 512 manual but I expect PSA knows what it means.
I’ve had it happen a few times right after any kind of power blip. Only affected the DAC as I have the PMG Pre also.
Per Delia, "Yellow indicates a “power failure”. Typically, that means some aspect of the unit hasn’t initialized correctly or has shut down unexpectedly. Unfortunately, there’s really no indication of what component that is – usually it’s the streamer but if you were streaming it obviously wasn’t that.
The yellow light is not a very common issue and doesn’t often repeat, and since it powered back on just fine I’m not too worried about it. If that yellow light becomes more frequent, we’d want to look into it further, but for now I think you’re probably fine".
I power cycled it with the main power switch in the rear and it came right back up back in June…happened a few days ago when the power had a blip again, but came back up after anothter power cycle.
Thank you for the reply and the explanation.
That is good to understand. We are having some massively unusual hot weather here in the UK and a lot of folks are using AC at night so the Power has been a bit more strained than usual - though my unit goes through a Puritan Audio PSM156 (but which doesn’t help if there is an outage or big ‘blip’)
I was playing in via my Antipodes K50 DMP on USB into the DAC - so it might have been the streaming unit as that was not in use at the time
Went up to the latest firmware as well a few days back.
Hopefully just a blip as you say and is still going strong now 15 hours after the last yellow colour warning. Many thanks
