In the first 5 seconds of the nearly 20 seconds I listened to the just out if the box cable I did not form an opinion on which one I preferred. I won’t have a chance to listen any time soon. Travel week for me.
The High Current Dragon 1 meter showed up. It is a bit unwieldy and stiff too. Looks like the pulled battery tabs on this DBS too.
Waiting for system reboot now
You have to wonder where Al travels and why.
…or maybe we are better off not knowing…
“Wetwork”, is my guess.
You have the newer unbraided cable which is supposed to be less stiff.
Well 60 days to determine if the High Current Dragon is worth the hype and the price to power a P20 and the complete system.
So Far…….
The details, nuances and layering and realism are unreal. Delicate stringed to complex bass No Congestion or jumbled notes or instruments, or voices. Gained soundstage depth and height. Width is narrower. Which I have read is breakin. characteristics.
Head to head comparison to a 10 gauge 20AMP BAV the two are miles apart. Not to say the BAV did not do lots and still does.
Now if you want everything to harmonize the Dragon might not do that. Because you’re gonna hear everything in its own space. Particularly with Line Arrays like I run. But oh the accuracy and beautiful reproduction of soloist. I can only imagine a choir will be a choir of soloist singers. But time will tell.
Bill Evans some other time. Oh my yes
Yes that surprised me I was expecting more braid. but did wrangle it in a double S turn. They do have some separation clips providing space.
UhhOhh. 20 seconds for that much money should have jumped out and bit you on the *%$#!
I am going to Kyomi Audio in Chicago to see my Audio Guru George. It’s time for new gear.
I feel inclined to remind you to put me in your will.
When are you going? I have to see this place someday!
There’s a long line for that.
I’ll be there Saturday morning.
Based on the gear he sells, I wish he posted trade-ins on his site
Will I be able to get passed your security detail?
I had heard that some people said that the braided cable wasn’t easy to work in tight places so the new design is supposed to help.
Unless he’s carrying brands not listed on his website you are pretty much at the top of his line unless you want to just swap speakers to Marten or MBL and electronics to MBL or MSB for fun. Your Vivids are among the best speakers in existence.
I was just teasing about needing new gear.
I am going down with a friend who is picking up a new TechDAS Airforce III Premium with an Acoustical Systems Axiom 12” Tonearm. He’s sort of excited. For those of you not familiar with that tonearm, it lists for $24k. Yikes. I guess he is going to put a Shure M95E (used) on it.
If I buy anything at all it will just be another Stealth Audio power cable.
My friend owns MBL 101E speakers, I am so very familiar with them. I maybe should have considered them but they are kind of funny looking. I prefer the normal look of my Vivids. (LOL) I just plain prefer my Vivids. I don’t see me swapping speakers for at least a few more months, if ever.
By the way, I am sitting at my computer listening to my new Dragon 48 cable. All I can say at the moment is it is clear and clean and doesn’t seem to impede or color the sound in any way. Straight wire with no gain as they might say. It’s a keeper.
Can I hear a difference between it and the RAL. I can’t really say. It sounds wonderful so I am pleased. If it gets better I am not sure how to even say what could improve. It doesn’t sound like it needs to improve.
Al
I’m not sure your speakers can be beat by anything less than six figures and not really sure what that would be. I know you have listened to “your friends” two different pairs of MBL and they were obviously not your cup of tea when you had to chose. Not sure if Marten comes close and they have no re-sale value in the US. If the “Guru” thought MBL or MSB electronics were a better match for Vivid he would have steered you in that direction, but he didn’t. You own an “end game” system so enjoy. Still can’t believe you bought an AQ cable. What’s next an SR purple fuse or whatever color they go to next so they can raise the prices again.
Ouch!
But I deserve that.
He steered me into Gryphon and then told me now that I had all the Gryphon gear I had to have the Vivid Spirits. I went to his shop and listened to them and the were so different sounding than anything else I ever heard I said no, not for me. But I had a change of heart and I am so glad I did.
Six week ago he told me the price of the MBL 101 Extremes was going up considerably in the near future so if I want them I better get them now. I’m safe.
Also, the AQ cable was so very inexpensive compared to my Stealth Audio cables. When Stealth makes an HDMI or I2S cable I’ll have that.
Edit: Speaking of Stealth, I just switched the Audience Front Row USB cable out on this computer system of mine and put The Stealth Audio USB cable in place. I hear a strong difference with this cable swap. Hmmm.
