Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

99% sure I’m going to order a signature rendu se and ultra digital (usb to i2s converter) tomorrow. I’ll sell my current optical Rendu, farad and matrix.

I love the rendu gear. For me it’s the perfect device. It enables easy switching between DLNA JRiver and Roon and sounds fantastic with both. It’s my ideal digital audio solution so gonna pay the big bucks for the signature series (not expecting it to sound better even though it’s about double the price of my current setup). Also, the ultra digital powers off the usb buss so I can get away without the two external farad power supplies.

I was quite pleased with my Signature Rendu. I am confident you will enjoy yours!

So, you will no longer have an I2S output option to the DAC? – if I read the product description accurately.

Please correct me if I erred.

Enjoy the new kit, in any event.

Merry Christmas.

The ultra digital will take usb out of the signature rendu and covert to i2s into my dsd.

Thanks. You beat me to it.

I re-read you post and realized this is two-box solution.

Have fun.

Yup, wish they built the i2s conversion into the signature rendu. They used to at one point. Next best thing given the ultra digital is on the small side. Better than my current 4 box solution (two power supplies) I figure.

Here’s hoping…

Opinions on Dac or amp upgrade first. So this is my system. Blue sound node into DS JR into BHK PRE into Mark Levinson 134 Amp Into Bowers and Wilkins 803D2’s. Everything plugged into a P12. I will be purchasing the new Airlens streamer so would you go with the new upcoming DS MKII or BHK 250 first.

BHK 250. You can have it now.

I was was thinking that way also but will be my last big purchase for a long time so I’m thinking which would make the biggest impact on sound quality.

My opinion, based on what you have already is experiment with a DAC. I have got much more variability, sound and image changes from a DAC then any amp really. I think a fine tune with a DAC would get you further down the road than a 250. I have had a 250-it’s a great amp but in my personal experience I had to go big with an amp before it even came close to really changing the overall picture. Nuances yes, and if you were going from say Mac to Pass then yes, but the ML amp you have is not bad at all. My 2c

My next upgrade just arrived. Been listening for about an hour now and I’m a very happy camper.
PS Audio Stellar S300 Amplifier
Using the Sprout 100 as a pre-amp

Congratulations! Were you using the sprout previously as an amp?

Very nice!

Yes I was. Diving a pair of KLH Kendall towers. So far detail is about the same but the authority is much greater with the S300, greatly increased woofer control and I’m sensing more high end control as well, maybe greater smoothness.

Update: Listening to 4th track on Robin Collin’s Press Enter album. There is a quiet passage with a lot of cymbal action - way more presence and detail than I heard just using the Sprout 100 as the amp and pre-amp.

This is awesome!

Question: The Stellar S300 I just acquired is a used unit from The Music Room. My question is should I still register the serial number with PS Audio even though its a used unit?

Short answer is yes. You can try to register it on the “my products” page. If you have problems just give them a call or email and they will help you out. They are very lenient on warranty time FYI.

It shows you how good the sprout is.

I have no doubt the S300 is a remarkable piece as well. Sounds like you’re loving it!
