When I first saw the chair I thought it might be a Calligaris.
The sunroom stereo racks are back from anodize and assembled and the system is starting to come together! ![]()
Good looking room! Dimensions?
It is 14’ x 18’ with a sloping roof roughly 8’ on the short end and roughly 9’ on the tall end. The short end is on the left side in the picture.
The system will be for entertainment more than critical listening so no treatments or other tweaks although the gear will be nice.
All racks on wheels! I love these, I need some wheels so I can get bigger equipment. ![]()
My Bose sound system is on 17” rims. Really cool ones. The entire rack / car is a Maza 6 ![]()
Congratulations on those jawdropping gorgeous racks. You can be really proud, assuming you designed and probably made the racks yourself.
Indeed I like those wheels on which they reside. It’s rare to ging rugged wheels that look good and hopefully absorb vibrations. Quite the search I guess, or are those also custom made?
Sound system in combination with view through those windows: Maybe no critical listening, but guaranteed enjoyment.
Yes it’s a nice place to hang out and relax. It took a year and a half to get the sunroom done due to lack of material availability but it was worth the wait.
I designed and made the racks in my machine shop. The rubber feet between shelves are load rated and the caster wheels are also load rated but off the shelf.
Once I get things where they finally end up I may take them off or may not. Its pretty nice to be able to move the racks without straining anything. ![]()
Those look like the same McMaster-Carrs I’m using! ![]()

I just bought an Inakustik Reference Cat 7 ethernet cable from Germany for a reasonable price, strong dollar helped.
I will replace Supra Cat8 with it between Orbi satellite and SoTM Cat7 Lan Isolator to see if ethernet makes any difference. This is the only link that I believe should not matter. I guess I will find out.
I will be surprised bif you don’t hear a difference for the better. I tried Excellenz and referenz. The Excellenz is great for HT the Referenz images instrumentalists.
A long while ago I didn’t believe power cords make much difference. Now I believe they make as much difference as any link, if not more.
I just found out today that a Samsung 4TB 2 1/2” SSD sounds better than a Toshiba 4TB 3 1/2” HHD and a Seagate 4TB Ironwolf NAS. There is no doubt the Samsung had better transients and presence than either the HHD or NAS. I did multiple comparisons and it was very obvious, can you believe it. The HHD and NAS was very close, but I give the edge to the HHD. The Samsung SSD really impressed me!
Having just built a NAS with 5 16TB Iron Wolf drives I’m going to ignore these thoughts.
Sorry Al, I forgot you were working on a NAS. I found getting a really good Ethernet switch box and Ethernet cable really helps with an NAS.
The only thing between my NAS and my streamer is a EtherREGEN with clock. It seems okay but 100mb is sad.
HHD’s are not as fast as SSD’s. Using 7’200 rpm drives will make them faster, but still nowhere near a good SSD drive。The Samsung SSD is about 500mb.
Maybe I should explain my findings further. The differences in sound is not as much the drives as the way they deliver the data. When I use a SR Ethernet switch and WW Platinum 8 Ethernet cable with the NAS and a patch cord USB cable with the hard drives, the NAS sounds better. But when I change the patch cord to an Audience FrontRow USB cable on the hard drives, the hard drives sounded better. Using the same USB cable, the SSD drive still beats the HHD drive. But like you said about the speed, I love the SSD’s data transfer speed as well.
