Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

My NAS has 800gb of M2 cache x 2 for read and write caching. And I am so obvious in my play selections I get 80% to 90% cache use. The 8TB Samsung SSD drives still live in their original locations inside my various streamers so it’s an easy test. Just one I’m not interested in.

My Tweakers 12 Step meetings have been helpful. And I’ve met a lot of sad old white men. It offsets all the women I deal with in my Rabbit Rescue work. Pleasing bunnies is more rewarding than tweaking constantly.

If you are still in denial, your not truly ready to take that first of 12 steps.

Just sayin’…

Tweaking and upgrading is a fun part of this sport. If it becomes a chore, then it’s time to put on some records and sit back and just enjoy the music.

Try powering it with an lps, and if you want to get extra weird try the elfidelity sata filters

The thought did occur to me. I will be looking into some Ifi lps next that would fit the bill nicely, and what’s this thing about data filters…… :upside_down_face:

But enough of this tweaking for now. I just got a message from Ethan’s at The Cable Company that my Hyperion MkII cartridge will arrive by the end of the week! I will have more tweaking to do, this time it’s analog.

My external Samsung SSD 2T T7 sounded so good, but I have never compared with others. So, I accidentally picked the right one for a change. It I’d so simple to use too.

Yes you did. I use the Samsung 870 EVO instead because it had 4TB. My brother brought over some other hard drives but this Samsung beats them all.

My brother was just over to hear what my new Samsung SSD sounds like and the first word that came out of his mouth was “Sh**!!”. The Samsung was much better than my NAS even with the SR Ethernet Switch in the circuit. It was better than my HHD 3.5" drive also. It had more air, 3D, and presence. Now he’s running home to try it. He does have a Samsung EVO with 500GB of storage to play with. But he needs a good USB cable to get more out of it. I tried it with a direct connection and I can’t understand it, it sounds better with a good USB cable like the Front Row and Ifi Purifier 3 in the path. He will let me know what happens after he try it.

I could not find any audiophile cable for the Usb-c connector that Samsung T7 external SSD uses. But the stock cable sounded particularly good. All local files sound excellent, and I do not know how it sounds compared to internal SSD in NSA.

Do you happen to know if a Samsung 870 EVO can just be plugged into a USB connection to my Symology NAS to add storage capacity?

My iMac and NAS are both out of space and I can no longer back up the iMac. :flushed:

AQ again, I just got a Dragon and now I need a diamond?

The SSD only costs around $200, I don’t know if it is worth it.

Hmm, for transmitting files from SSD to streamer do I need one? Okay, it is on my list now, but Diamond has been around for a long time. I will wait until they upgrade it to Dragon, and I bet it will be ten times better.

Guessing stock cable is fine, that’s what I use from Nucleus Plus to the two T7’s attached to it.

Here is how you can make the connection. You need a Sabrent 3.5"/2.5" SATA container for around $30. It has USB 3.0 input.

I am okay. The stock USB cable is A to C, A side goes into server and C goes into SSD. There is no converter needed and it is only 1/3 meter long. It sounds great. I know AQ Diamond makes one, but I am surprised there are few others.

The Dragon replaced the Diamond in the HDMI. The Dragon is far superior IMO to the Diamond. They don’t make Dragon USB yet. I prefer the WW Platinum starlight 8 over the AQ Diamond USB.

I do remember there was a discussion on that, thanks!
