Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

Oops I guess its off market.

The Galileo PowerCell SX is $28k new, but it comes with the Galileo SRX power cable worth $10k. $17,995 without cable. No, it is not cheap!

Maybe you’re referring to the SR grounding block. It’s only $595. It gives the cables a separate grounding path that can lower the noise floor of all your equipment connected to it.

Well the power block seems like a first step. At least same connector as the gismo block. The other thing power block is a regenerator on steroids.

I’ll give your RF ring/Drag

It is a cheap tweak and Dragon really opens up 3D sound stage and noise floor drops. If it doesn’t work no harm. @dchang05 likes it.

…Dragon / P20 mod a shot. What do I have to lose? My sanity? Besides I already have Sorbothane and rebar cable risers in my kit bag.

@watchdog507 it worked for him too.

Full loom or not full loom. I tend to stay with one brand only for the whole system, PCs ICs speaker and digital cables. Ricable from Italy before, AudioQuest now. The only exception in my case are the XLRs Iconoclast, I really love.
If possible also with the same range level line within that specific brand. Dragon was my choice. Here the exception are speaker cables (William Tell Silver ZERO + BASS combo) subs power cords (Tornado) for a mere budget reason and USB/Ethernet cables (Diamond is top of the line, Dragon doesn’t exists yet). Intona or Inakustik I tried recently didn’t give me equal satisfaction and Pink Faun are on the way to find out what they can bring.
Using the same brand/line with all components, especially for power cords, I found that can give me better results, where the amount of improvement as a sum is largely superior to the single. I had confirmation of this synergies cable theory from people of Innuos, I was discussing with last week.
What is your opinion about it?

Full loom has always been better for me. It seems to result in greater coherence to the presentation.

Luca. Since our systems are quite similar, I was wondering which XLR Iconoclast cables are you using and between which components? I may dabble in cable upgrades at some point in the future. Thanks.

I can jump in to help. Luca and I have all PSA gear from PST to M1200. AQ Dragon PCs work exceptionally well with PSA, I am gradually adding more Dragon Sources to match his. But for IC we both use Iconoclast 4×4 Gen2 UPOCC XLR from DS to BHK pre, and between pre and M1200 amps. Here again, two sets of Iconoclasts work in great synergy.

Luca made a great comparison in reviewing XLRs in other thread and ultimately selected Iconoclasts over Dragon and Firebird. They are not cheap but are a bargain in comparison.

You may be right on this. The 3M tuning rings work on some of the power cords I tried but did not work on my Stealth V10. You would think it should work well in Stealth since the tweak was developed by vmax from your loaner.

Hi @Sohail,

as @dchang05 correctly reported I posted several comparisons between Iconoclast and new Dragon XLR cables on this thread (select only posts from my account to read all from post no.52)

Iconoclast UPOCC XLRs were (and still are) my favorites for analog:

  • from PSS to BHK Pre (Donald don’t forget I have a TT yet, not in my garage but on my rack!)
  • from BHK Pre to M1200s

Dragons were (and still are too) on the other hand remarkably better IMO for digital rig

  • from DS DAC to BHK Pre

I haven’t had yet the need to look for something else, very happy as I am.

Hah, you are still an analog guy at heart! Thanks for correcting my confusion :face_with_monocle:

When I sent you the Synergistic power cable I forgot to include the plug that came with it to connect it to home ground. That was the only thing missing and easily fixed with a two dollar three pronged plug. I have never experienced the magic boxes. I did mess around with the gold and red devices. I couldn’t really hear much of a difference. The last time I used that cable was with the short lived Holo Audio May DAC Placebo Edition. Nothing could make that sound worthwhile compared to my other DACs.

I have a friend that strongly believes in all the Synergistic Research power, ground, black boxes and tuning devices. He is now a Synergistic Research dealer. His system sounds really good.

I will admit that I made a decision to just use the best Stealth Audio cables without a great deal of thought or research. I did compare the V17 Sakra LE balanced interconnects to the Iconoclast V2 balanced and the Stealth was an easy winner at only ten times the cost. Galen was not happy at all. Understandable. Galen engineers his cables with price in mind. Quite a few if us wish he would do a cost no object design but that isn’t something he seems interested in doing as it is not the Iconoclast way. I respect that but wonder what he could come up with in sucg an exercise. At their price point they are hard to beat.

Almost at heart, Donald and you are amongst the “culprits”! What an horrible thing to admit: last week my son got 2 albums (REM’s Lifes Rich Pageant and Talking Heads’ Fear of Music to complete our collection of these groups) and this terrible lazy father haven’t yet played them tempted to stream them but no no I cannot! I’m strengthening resisting, it would be uneducative!

I’m reading a lot of good reviews about Taiko Extreme Server and MSB digital rigs. Both of them are out my possibility, period. Not to mention the fact that the DS MK II and the AirLens finally are on the horizon.
I’m wondering why in this forum there are no mentions about them, or there are very rare comments.
The only person I know here that is able to consider them affordable likes Grimm MU1 (guess who) so I’m wondering if he or other members out there have opinions to share. Sorry, free Sunday thoughts rolling…

I am aware of them, not interested enough to read a review. Everyone has limits and those exceed my self imposed limits. The Grimm MU1 doesn’t need to be replaced by any any other device IMHO.

I have spent more in power cables than interconnects. I am sure once I heard better ICs than Galen’s I’d gladly pay. My wife spent time listening to music last night and she clearly noticed the change with the UPOCC missing Hopefully Jeff at Iconoclast can reclock them in a day when they arrive in Seattle on Tuesday. I am tempted to try BAV unbalanced on the amps but hate doing blind connections just for a day or too.

I should have researched how the ground connectors for SR worked and did a kluge connection. I did like their Purple Fuse until the latest Beeswax M-1 I bet sure SR top power. cables sound amazing for their price.
