Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

I think you will like this one. Ended up with a WWPL7 and later a RAL but definitely best in its (low) price class.

I am looking into the Holo Audio May KTE. Is it upgradable??

They offer different levels for purchase. . . but I do not believe this DAC is upgradable in the way that the DSD and DSD Jr. are.

I finally found the link to email the US distributor asking about upgradability, and handling service, if needed. I guess I shall see how quickly the handle things, and what answers I get. All the review make it sound so fantastic, but my decision has to not only factor in today’s sound, but tomorrow’s sound, customer service, etc., etc., etc. But i know this, IMHO, their website is terrible. Maybe tied for the worst website ever.

I just replaced my Marantz SA8005 SACD player with their new SACD-30n. It’s running on repeat while I’m at work. Touchy-feely, fit/finish impressions are solidly high. Hope the sound is commensurate.

And I’m waiting on a Wireworld USB cable so I can insert the Aurender N100H I got from my brother, in place of my Node 2i. That’ll be a pain, since it’ll probably require a rethinking of how and where all my equipment is positioned on my shelves.

After about 48 hours of burn-in (I don’t know if it helped or not, since I didn’t listen to it critically before), I’m confident in saying the SACD 30n is a substantial improvement over the SA8005. It retains the warmth of the Marantz “house sound,” but still manages to bring considerably more fine detail to the table, the lack of which was my complaint about the older player. Of course it’s more than twice the price of the 8005, and benefits from a lot of trickle-down from the KI Ruby and the SA10. So far I’m very pleased.

My Vivid G1 Spirits are on their way to me and should arrive by late Thursday.
My Gryphon Pandora Preamp has had its Legato Phono Preamp circuit boards installed. Hopefully it will arrive this week as well. I will finally have all the pieces I started ordering back in October 2020.

Before October I told a few friends that my current audio system is totally satisfying and I don’t need to even think about getting anything new. A few weeks later I decided to change everything except the Jay’s Audio CD Transport which I did upgrade to the Mark III version. So technically the only piece of gear that will exist in the new system that has not had any changes is my P20. All cables and other devices are completely different from the old system. In fact, I could setup the old system somewhere else or maybe even sell a piece or two. Odd.

Fortunately my wife will not be home Thursday when the speakers arrive. Once she sees their Pearl white ice cream cone good looks she’ll cut me in half and send me in two directions. Or not.

She’ll like them as long as you do not disclose the price :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Congratulations in advance, and I’ll pray for you to have peace at home.

Besides designing Vivid Giya G1 Spirits, Laurence Dickie has also designed the speaker unit in this.

They will be in my new music/reading room, as an alternative sound system to the stereo and as part of the lighting system. Also in my office and used for a cinema system. Possibly elsewhere over time. We have a way to go before we’re listening to them, or the stereo. At the moment the guys are in a 3m deep trench for an extension to the kitchen. The wall on the left is going as well.

Well done! I hope your renovation works end soon. If this were my place, I’d be quite stressed till works are finished :grimacing:

As long as you spend your money in two directions…
Seeing someone, living his hobby as you do, can be married at all, gives hope for all audiophiles

Ha! I had a mate before I had a stereo obsession . . . counter to the evolutionary trend!

Just tell her the ice cream :icecream: truck was visiting the neighborhood and you used up your pocket change for your favorite flavor.

Hopefully she likes her ice cream sans the chopped nuts sprinkled on top.

We might need to set up a side betting pool on @aangen wife’s reaction. Not so sure his normal charming disposition will sway her this time.

We’re remodelling (as they say in the USA) most of the house for the next 20+ years, with a sanctuary room for reading and music. My wife is doing the design and I’m project managing. It’s actually a lot of fun, almost everything is made or sourced locally, the kitchen and all the cabinetry is being made by a local chap I’ve known 30+ years. Even the lighting is locally made, some at a local glass foundry.

I shall be having a Fremer moment tomorrow as I need a new power supply and the network people are coming round, and I have to pay for it. 69kV 3-phase (300A at 240v) apparently. Currently I can’t charge the car, it keeps tripping out.

I succombed to an impulse and ordered 8 VooDoo Cable IsoPods to put beneath my speakers. I have these under all the components except my turntable* in the main system and love the resulting sound. . . and had been using other isolation methods under the speakers and thought “what the heck I’ll try them there” when I saw a special for two sets of four.

An upgrade for sure. The resulting effects are a lot like Sunlight swapped for Windom: tighter bass, more instrumental separation, a more natural feel to the whole presentation. Glad I did it. . . all except the paying for it part.

*under the turntable I have the also excellent Mapleshade Megafeet.

He’ll find away and he’ll succeed with it.

Congratulations on both marrying a lady who shares your interests and for having her design your space.

300A sounds a lot to me. Are you pulling a dedicated power line for your main audio system?
