69kV is apparently what they put in as standard to a family house, and we don’t have an indoor pool or flood-lit tennis court. I think there’s a bit of future-proofing involved.
I will put in a dedicated line for the 2-channel audio, it’s a short run and all the floors are being replaced so it’s no big deal. The sound/light in each ceiling zone will also probably need its own spur because each of these sound/light units has a 75w Class-D amplifier and all the other wireless and audio processing technology. Apparently they recommend up to 9 units on a 6A feed, although some units will be low voltage lighting only.
The amount of power drawn by modern kitchen appliances is simply staggering. Our house is only about 110 years old but there are parts that need to be brought seriously up to date.
The Townshend Podiums are staying in. I wasn’t able to put them head to head with Isoacoustic Gaias, but I feel they are superior for the job. I previously had Gaias on my Ulfberhts.
That’s right. They’re like amplifier platforms, but are spring loaded to the weight of the speaker. The knobs adjust spring tension. There’s no assembly required.
Highly recommended indeed. I have them under my B&W 800, and under each electronic component. You can see them in my recently posted system picture. The biggest improvement was with the speakers.
I really like these speakers. The sound is accurate and open but they need to me a meter or so off the front wall to sound their best. They also sound great from anywhere in the room.
I did add a couple of SVS3000 subs to help fill in the low end but that seems to be true with any speaker.
I was originally going to buy a kit from Danny Ritchie but couldn’t see myself having time to assemble it. That led me to a search of OB speakers and I ended up with Spatials. No regrets here.
FYI: HDPlex has the 300W LPS listed for preorder again. It wasn´t available for month and today I got a back-in-stock notification. So if everybody hurry up, there is a batch of only 80 (!) units for sale mid June!
HDPlex 300W is great value for money. The fact that it has four independently regulated rails (2 fixed rails @ 10 amp each; 2 variable rails @ 3 Amp each) made it an ideal choice for my setup. Canare 4S6 DC cables with Neutrik XLR and Oyaide DC plugs made even better.
It turns out I get three separate 100A supplies (69kV 3-phase) earthed to the main supply. This is likely to cost me $5,000, which includes digging up one pavement to disconnect the old cable, digging up another pavement to install the new one, supplying the cable and a junction box on the side my house. Mr Fremer paid $16,000 to have something installed that ruined his hifi system. And I only have to dig a trench about 2m, which my builder was delighted about. I think the stereo will go on the car charger supply, as that is inactive most of the time. Oh happy days!
DI’s are also really good but I havent heard them. I do have a set of Electrons and for the money they are really good. Especially when paired up with their 12" Brisance sub.
One question as I also like the idea of serving multiple devices from it:
Usually we want to avoid this as especially digital equipment gives noise back to the other feeds is served from the same unit. That’s why we usually want separate power supplies for separate equipment.
So is a multi-used HDPlex noticeably worse sounding than e.g. 3 single ones of whatever brand?
