Has anyone found after market fuses to be an improvement when used in conjunction with the P20 regenerator?
Yes.
It looks like a single 6.3A fuse from the photo of the rear panel? What fuse are you using? My P20 is inbound so Iâm getting all interested in such things.
Synergistic Blue
So the story goes like thisâŚ
I thought all I needed was one after market fuse for my BHK Preamp. Sweet and no problem, right?
One and I am done. Simple and easy peasy!
I selected the SR Blue Fuse.
As soon as it came in the mail I did the old-switch-a-rooâŚ
WOW, what a very nice and very worthwhile sonic improvement. The sound was so much better and right-away noticeable. I have to say that it was very worth the money and I felt it was a good-bang-for-the-buck.
So after a few days of listening it dawned on me that the new PSA P12 might also have a fuse!
Wow, what a concept, right?
I looked at it this way, if one fuse is good then 2 fuses must be better. Simple logic?
I ordered another SR Blue Fuse and slipped it in as soon as it arrived by mail.
However, I was a little less adulated with what I heard.
You see from my prospective I feel that the biggest improvement came from the Preamp.
It was less so with the P12.
Now donât run off half cocked, because I did hear an improvement but it was not as much as with the Preamp. It was just a little less than expected. So for a buck fifty, I still think its worth it and I am still glad I replaced the P 12âs fuse with the Blue fuse.
As you know, what we are doing is âTweakingâ and some tweaks will work/sound better than others and some will cost more than others.
But no matter what, we all are moving in the right/upward progression in achieving sonic purity.
Not sure if what I wrote has helped or not but for me replacing the OEM fuse for the âBlue Fuseâ was worth the improvement.
Happy listening my friendsâŚ
I was surprised to hear an improvement in sound from an after market fuse. I didnât understand how such a small item can do anything to affect the sound, but it does. I didnât think the power cord of the regenerator can change the sound. I was wrong there also. I found out that also can improve the sound. I donât understand why, but I definitely can hear it. So does all the power cords that comes after the regenerator. This is one expensive hobby.
SR Sigma NR power cord & SR BLUE fuse⌠just sayinâŚ
Ditto on that recommendation for a PSA regenerator. Serious dinero but makes
a noticeable improvement. On the order of changing the DAC cord, of which I
know you did that as well.
Much thanks to all for sharing your experiences with after market fuses. I was surprised with the responses because I was thinking my regenerator took care of cleaning up the electric. I am using a DIY power cord on all my components and am it took me to audio nirvana.
I have a P20 and I was stunned (and confused) for the improvement a very expensive power cable made.
Yup. A fellow Sigma owner but ok with that.
After market fuses are an improvement anywhere you put it in including regenerators. So far the best fuse seem to be the SR Blue, but I heard someone say Bee Wax fuse is way better. It does cost a bit more though, $225 each. Has anyone compare the two?
@waymanchen11 - Every fuse in my rig (22) have been replaced by SR BLUE fuses and every one made a difference. I have not tried Bee Wax fuses, that would be an interesting shoot out against SR BlueâŚ
There has been a god deal of discussion on bees wax fuses. Most who have tried them have been impressed. I suggest searching the forum for âbees wax fuse,â âbeeswax fuse,â etc. and you will find the discussions.
Iâve done some searching and I cannot find any user reports specifically on the Audio Magic Beeswax Ultimate in a P20 regenerator. Anyone tried it in either the P12, P15 or P20?
I much prefer the Bee Wax, but SR provides values that Bee Wax doesnât.
There you.go⌠I totally agree with you on that comment.
And it supports my early post saying that same thing.
You are good!
I forgot to mention that now everything is set, I am running the Aurender 24/7 coming up on 300 hours. I listen every day at the same time and catch change for the better.
At this point I would say yes, I hear improvement.
I have two Audio Magic Bee Wax ultimates on order, one for my P3 and one for my P12. Once I get them broken in, I will be able to comment on improvements. And, we must remember that some people (including the fuse makes) say directionality matters. So, we should try the fuse, listen for awhile, the reverse it, listen a while more, then decide what works. Some may hear a difference, some may not.
Youâre right about directionality. Some think that the print on the fuse body is intentionally directional, but Iâve found that doesnât seem to be the case with the SR Blue fuses that I use.
