Funny how different can sound different and almost be misunderstood as better. Until you go back to the reference.
The fuse sacrifice won’t stop lightning from ruining equipment.
Absolutely correct. It has no problem going 40,000 feet so an extra 1/2" certainly wont be noticed. I have had one lightening strike to my house and two to my shop over the years and both were disastrous as far as killing electronic equipment and almost causing fires each time.
But But But my gear is in the house!

I had a friend that lightning followed power line to house ir jumped to and outside light into house wiring over to other wires. Set his house on fire from inside. He got it out but ruined most every electronics and appliance.
Bad grounding.
